The reviews on this book are good for the most part and I agree. I finished the book in two days reading all the time which I normally don't do. I even read up to 1 AM in the morning because I lost track of time. While the story is straight forward, the back story of the world he lives in was interesting to me since it was very different from today. Others have reviewed the plot, so I will skip that, but I recommend you try the first book.

While there are definite similarities to the Star Force series, there is enough difference to keep this book feeling fresh and interesting. I am absolutely hoping that he writes more in this series and I would rather that we didn't get stuck way out in the middle of nowhere for book after book. While I have continued to enjoy the Star Force series with its unique elements, I would like to see more of Earth in this series before launching ships into nowhere.

This book is cheesy and poorly written; most of the characters are ridiculously two dimensional, the dialogue is terrible, and the main character is a buffoon which is starkly highlighted by him supposedly being highly intelligent and capable. It might be consider to be so bad it is good, or at least good enough to finish; I read it to the end but I doubt I'll read anything else by this author.

I am a fan of B.V. Larson's work, and have to say that I am disappointed in this new series.

I find the main character, Sparhawk, to be something of a predictable and unlikeable twit. I don't like the fact that I can easily outthink him and his crew, or that I am forced to sigh at his blindness to the obvious.

The Undying Mercenaries series was fun, and I was hoping to enjoy this new universe. Instead, I am very disappointed.

This was my first book by Mr Larson. I enjoyed the book for the most part, though some decisions by the main character left me wanting to throw my Kindle at the wall. Some characters had a little depth, the love interest certainly wasn't one of them. His weakness regarding a woman he just met was distressing. No book is perfect though. I would definitely buy the next book if he chooses to continue this story.

Not the quality I'm used to from BV Larson.

I am a big fan of B. V. Larson's Starforce and Undying Mercenaries series. So, I picked this one up to based on the notion that he hasn't let me down yet.

In many ways, his writing is improving over time and this story seems like an attempt to take what he has learned and start anew. In that context, he is pretty successful. The characters are more developed, their actions make more sense than in some of his previous stories, and his love interest plots are no longer cringeworthy (If you know about Sandra in the Starforce series you will know what I mean).

Now, that being said I did only give this story 3 stars. The reason is because he is getting rather formulaic in some ways. So while the story is well written and an improvement over many of his past efforts, I also don't feel like he is making any attempt to move beyond the military science fiction genre. And with a gifted author such as Larson, I would really like to see him move in a different direction. Starforce and The Undying Mercenaries have the military angle thoroughly covered, so it is my hope he expands his universe slightly into other directions soon.

Having gobbled up the Star Force and Undying Mercenaries series, I eagerly downloaded BATTLE CRUISER. Not only was I not disappoInted, I was delightfully surprised. The POV character is unlike either Riggs or McGill - he's bold but not brash, brave but not blustery. Born to privilege, he turned his back on wealth and power to serve Earth in the Guard. Honorable almost to a fault. I enjoyed the journey in this book, and I'm very much hoping the story of the Battlecruser Defiant is continued.

First, I'm hoping for a follow-on book. Overall I agree with some of the other reviews, not his best, but very readable. He may have made some poor leaps and assumptions in a few places, but it's still a fun read. One of the advantages to it being an Amazon e-book is that I'm not into it for thirty dollars. For four bucks it's OK.

I loved this story. Great characters, I enjoyed the storyline and the possibilities for sequels are fascinating. I don't have a specific suggestion as to what Sparhawk should do next except get out into the galaxy and discover the current state of affairs! He will make enemies, discover unlikely friends and allies and get in and out of some hairy situations...
