My life is as predictable as it comes. I go to work at my security job, I hang out with my friends, and I spend my free time alone. I don’t want or need anyone or anything else.
Then I’m assigned a night contract with Jordan, who’s my complete opposite, and my world is flipped upside down.
Jordan is friendly, outgoing, and nothing like the men I’m usually attracted to. He’s also big, confident, and can turn me to putty with just his words. I don’t know who I am when I’m with him, and while he makes me feel better than anyone ever has, I’m not sure I’m ready to let someone else take control.
I like Jordan, and I trust him, but is that enough for me to give in and let him take care of me?
***Battle for the Top is aa 75k word opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine, hurt/comfort story featuring a jaded former soldier turned security guard, his friendly but guarded co-worker, a found family, and accidental feels. It is Book 2 in the Heroes at Home series, but can be read as a standalone.

About the author

What can I say about myself? It’s kind of like being the new kid in school and being asked to tell everyone a bit about yourself. Anyone else forget everything they’ve ever liked, thought of, and even their name in those moments?
A few facts about me; I’m Canadian, and I love books! I’ve been writing my own stories since I was eight and wrote my first novel at sixteen. I’m the first to admit those attempts weren’t my best work, but they started me on a journey of creating stories that has led me to fulfilling my dream of becoming an author, and I’m so happy to be able to share my stories with people today.
I currently live on Canada’s east coast with my kiddo and my cat. I have a shoe collecting addiction, and I enjoy reading anything and everything I can get my hands on.

Battle for the Top had a lot of tropes that I love: ex-military, D/s dynamics and hurt /comfort. I liked how Luke and Jordan took care of each other when needed, their relationship was never one sided even if Luke struggled with opening up at first.
It was a steamy read with a lot of hook up scenes, but they still had a nice variety to them. The pacing was on point through most of the story, and while I got a little impatient for them to go from hook up to relationship, I understood why they were both hesitant to take the leap.
One downside was that I just felt like it was a bit too similar to the other books in the series (I read this one last), even if I still enjoyed Jordan and Luke's story, it just got a little repetitive. I also felt like the end was a bit rushed and abrupt, I wanted a bit more than what I got from it.
It was still an overall well written, emotional and engaging read and I really felt for the characters. I enjoyed seeing more of Doc and Sarge - I really adore this found family!
Luke is a shy guy. He doesn’t really do small talk, but he is good at his job. He prefers working alone. But Jordan seems to get under his skin right away.
Jordan is a chatterbox. What I loved the most about Jordan is that he accepts Luke just the way he is. Luke really needs someone like Jordan who is the light to his darkness.
Overall, a good story. I liked this one. Though part of a series can be read as a standalone story. I cannot wait to see where this series goes in the future.
Five Shooting Stars
The events external to their relationship, especially at their job, felt a bit unnecessary.
It definitely works as a standalone but I enjoyed seeing more of the other three series MCs.

Kleiner Spoiler: der Titel suggeriert ein bißchen, dass sich die beiden Charaktere nicht wirklich einig sind wer toppt und eventuell gar Gewalt im Spiel sein könnte, dies ist überhaupt nicht der Fall.

I stopped reading at the gas store robbery. I wasn’t a fan of making Jordan seem dumb, forgetful and like a scaredy cat. The man knew how to make plain rice, chicken breast and broccoli but was unaware of how easily it is to make homemade sweet potato fries?? Come on!!
The whole gas station scene was ridiculous starting with Jordan claiming the night before that he forgot to fill his tank after his best friend used all his gas and the next night it’s the same scenario again, whereas, his roommate and best friend Ella used all the gas that day...again, and he again forgets to refill, like “oops, how forgetful of me”?? Really??
I felt like the author was having trouble deciding how to Segway to scenes so went over the top with the built up, or almost contradicted things, which made it confusing. For ex. The first night Jordan said he was forgetful and had no gas, he said his friends are always telling him to drive with 1/2 tank and yet Ella leaves him hanging two days in a row with no gas to get to work and back? All this build up to get him to the gas station to play out a Luke be hero scene?? The scene played out like a badly acted hallmark movie, where two armed men rob a gas station that not only has people in it, but people outside filling up on gas who can so easily call the cops and YET, silly Jordan, after pumping gas, parks right in front and fails to see the armed men through the window or door, walks in and freezes. Crazy.
All of what I read is a damsel in distress scenario where Luke is this huge action hero, calming the dramatically crying teen and saving Jordan by diving infront of bullets, twisting in the air and landing so he can shield Jordan with his body ( I didn’t make that up, it’s legit in the book). Why does Jordan have to be a damsel?
Why write a m/m story if you are writing the typical weak, innocent female as the personality of one of the male characters. Both characters can be strong with their own vulnerabilities. Neither has to play a less than character.
