Lately, I find my gaming collection containing more EA Games software than any other brand!
Battlefield 1942 is a wonderful WW2 simulation. You can play on either the Axis or the Allied teams! Different missions represent different countries from these two sides, and each country has their own, unique weapons! You can choose to be a scout (sniper rifle/handgun/grenades), an assault soldier (assault rifle/handgun/grenades), an anti-tank soldier (anti tank rockets/handgun/grenades), a medic (short range, fast shooting carbine/handgun/grenades/ability to heal), or an engineer (single shot rifle, open sights/handgun/demolition bombs/anti-tank mines/ability to repair vehicles). There are enough maps here to keep you busy for a very, very long time! I got the game about 6 months ago, along with the Secret Weapons and Road to Rome expansion packs, and I still haven't stopped playing!
Fight on land using your basic weapons, or drive a tank/APC/Jeep/artillery vehicle! You can even pick up your dead buddy's or enemy's weapon configurations! Planes dive bombing you and your buddies? Jump into the seat of an anti-aircraft cannon! Aircraft carriers or battleships giving you grief? Grab ahold of those fixed artillery cannon controls and lob some high-caliber, high-impact rounds their way! You sunk my battleship! :)
Fighting on land not your style? Take to the skies in fighter planes and bombers! Most games that combine air/sea/land combat focus more on the land combat, and tend to have horrible air physics! (For example, Operation Flashpoint -- which is another great game, though the air fighting is lacking greatly) Not BF1942, though. The air fighting is almost as realistic as some WWII flying games like European Airwar!

Bought this set so we could fire up the multi disks up on many computers and battle it out. We had a bunch of fun and the cost was well worth the $9 or so I paid.

If you want the top of the line graphics like a new game you will be disapointed.

if you want to get a minor history lesson while having fun with friends or alone you will like this game.

I'll spare you all the usual blurb about this game and will simply sumarise by saying this:

- it's terrific fun. I mean it - it completely immerses you and makes you feel like you're there

- you can do whatever you want in each of the missions, including sitting back and watching your friends go in and try the attack themselves (and sometimes succeed!)

- the graphics, sound and gameplay are rivetting: you feel scared - as you should in this kind of game

I loved it, finished it and am playing it again. Thoroughly recommended...

Happy shopping

Well ive played some great war game befor but this is by far the greatest. After buying this game and installing it i learned 1 thing, well two.
*This game is great
*PRACTICE PRACTIC PRACTICE.
You must know your history, on some of the levels such as Omaha Beach, it shows the level with u-boats washed on the shore, wich was what really happened. Nearly everything is perfect to actual events, while some things have been add to create a better fun factor for gamers, example; more tanks on levels where there was really only 1 tank, or no tanks or vehicles. \
Playing this game takes learned skill. Flying planes for example is hard as heck the first time around, when i first started flying it was ugly , still is, but im alot beter. If you are really having problems go online and play, watch how the pro players fly and ask questions.

First off don't get ther Battlefield 1942 - Deluxe edition. It only comes with the original Battlefield: 1942 (BF) game and the first expansion Battlefield 1942 Expansion: The Road to Rome. You can also get Battlefield 1942: World War II Anthology which also has the second expansion Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII Expansion Pack or Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection which comes with both expansions and Battlefield: Vietnam.

I'll talk about the base game first. I've had this game a long time, but never got around to playing it. I tend to enjoy single player games so Battlefield 1942 for me doesn't beat the classic first person shooter (FPS) storyline games like Call of Duty: Game of the Year Edition, Medal of Honor Allied Assault Deluxe, and Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30.
