Having owned the original LP I enjoyed getting this on a digitally remastered format. I do own the non-commercially released complete saga soundtrack that includes select cues from all the episodes of the 21 episode series. My only complaint of this album is that the opening theme is a different arrangement than that of both the movie and the TV series. I didn't care much for the additional "disco" track on this Anniversary CD, but as for sound, it beats magnetic tape and vinyl any day.
The Battlestar Galactica Theme by Stu Phillips is easily in the top five television themes of all time, right up there with John Williams's Lost In Space (both), and Hawaii Five-O. This CD has a concert-hall sound. The disco version of the BG Theme will bring a lump into the throat of a true Battlestar fan. Liner insert is quite informative, with impressions by Phillips, Glen Larson, and Richard (Apollo) Hatch. I play it over and over.
I remember checking out this score from the library a few decades ago on cassette. The quality of this recording is better than that, but only slightly. As most of the other reviews have mentioned, this is one of the worst mixes in CD history. Play it on one stereo and it sounds like the treble has been cranked all the way and there's no bass at all. Play it on something else and it's all bass. The added reverb also detracts from what would otherwise be an incredible score.
Stu Phillips put out a newer version of this score on Varese Sarabande which I also own. I was disappointed with it as some of the tempos were a bit off. I feel that the original is superior if only it were mixed correctly.
Five stars for an incredible score with one star removed for a terrible mix.

The last track can only be described as the BSG version of the MECO Star Wars theme. 70's sci fi disco on the one track only. The standard BSG theme is there as well. For me track 17 was worth the price of the disc though.
This is the original soundtrack, and in my opinion, the best version. It's an awesome edition to any soundtrack collection. It also includes a bonus Disco version of the theme.
Well done; the music sounded better than I remembered it! I would, absolutely and without question, recommend this CD to anyone who remembers this series!
Thanks to a friend of mine who is just the best at finding bargains, I happened on this excellent CD.
I never though I would say this but kids today have it easy. DVD, video streaming, blu ray and film channels that allow them to watch anything they like, when ever they like. Not us when we were kids in the 70's and early 80's, until popularity made VHS cheap enough for the masses, we had to waiting to see stuff. I remember having to wait for the repeat at the cinema that was usually 6 months or 12 months after initial releases, wait for the TV debut and then repeats.
After Star Wars broke out in '77, everybody went sci-fi mad and this spawned many sci-fi off shoots and by far the most popular was Battlestar Galactica. A story that I saw at the cinema in the original movie incarnation, the later it was released in Episodes on BB2 on a Weekend night. This was Star Wars for the mini screen, it had it all, a soundtrack that made you know there was thrills and spills on the way, great space battles, heroes, gun fights, robots and a dastardly bad guy who you all wanted to see bought to justice. In the huge gaps between Star Wars viewings, Galactica satisfied the craving.
Anyway, now you young un's know the back ground of what it was like when I was a nipper. And why this TV show was so special to us. The CD contains all of the music that is associated with the movie edition more than the TV Episodes, although the music was reused throughout the show first season. The first opening piece is the main titles theme, and what a joy it is to listen to! All of the power, grandeur and emotion of this piece is evident in this new, crystal clear recording by the L. A. Philharmonic. I dare the hairs on your neck not to stand on end! In the same vain as the Star Wars soundtracks that included the Cantina tunes, not only is the incidental and main themes included but music that is performed in the movie by the female Trio of alien singers in the casino bar, and odd to here it is too in it's full form. Another aspect that shows how closely Galactica is related to Star Wars is the inclusion of a late 70's disco mix of the main theme which is a pleasure to hear as it was new to me.
The inlay card is really nice too, general information and nice colour images make it a pleasure to read, and the best touch is the classic poster image on the cover.
I can really recommend this CD, perfect in every way if your a vintage fan.

Wow I am surprised. This album is the 25th anniversary release. The sound though could be as if it had been recorded yesterday on 24 bit recording. There are 2 duff tracks which do show the age of the film though. These are 2 disco type tracks. The CD comes with an interesting little booklet and recounts the story of when ABC was sued by 20th Century Fox for plagiarism. One day whilst recording the soundtrack Mr John Williams himself turned up to hear what had been going on to see if there were as incorrectly reported similarities to his Stars Wars soundtrack and the BG soundtrack. These rumours were unfounded. The only negative I have is it is just not long enough about 25 mins at the most. But the price and the sound quality far outway this.

This is The Soundtrack From The original 2 hour movie pilot That launched The original classic series. The main theme played by The Los Angeles Philharmonic is now widely regarded as a classic. An alternate take on This Theme as a Disco version is olso included as a bonus track. The Tracks Themselves evoke epic space battles And a good feeling for The final frontier of space Which should please any science fiction fan I do like the artwork on The cover of The CD Which is exactly The same as The Blu ray release of The series And makes a Good companion piece to your collection. 17 Tracks in all Which I found Enjoyable.

I would have to say that the addition of the extra track adds a lot of value to this CD. It sort of blends in various aspects giving it a disco feeling of the late seventies and early 80's whilst maitaining the destinct Battlestar Theme music. Excellent. Naturally,it was sourced through Amazon- the only place really you can get this sort of retro soundtrack.
