Great little book.

While I have some background in statistics, I'm not a professional by any means. So I'll refrain from getting academic. I think this is a great little book ( 170 pages ) for people like me because it presents Bayesian analysis systematically with examples from various fields. There are helpful pictures and diagrams, as well as several appendices and an index. The appendices include a glossary, the rules of probability, probability density functions, the binomial distribution, the Gaussian distribution,least-squares estimation, reference priors, and Matlab code. There is also a guide to further reading. So for someone studying on their own, this could be a nice, self- contained tutorial. I'm enjoying it,

Intuitive and clear introduction to Bayesian Analysis

I enjoyed reading this book. As a assistant teacher in the university in electrical engineer courses I appreciate the approach of this book to introduce the subtle method of the Bayesian Analysis. It introduce the Bayes' Rule with very intuitive examples that allows to develop the understanding of the different parts involved in Bayesian Analysis (likelihood, prior, posterior and marginal likelihood).

It evolves then to a more complete scenario with discrete and continuos random variables and multiple data (matrix and vectorial approach), with the help of very useful simulations in Matlab.

I would recommend this as a companion book in different courses with Bayesian analysis as well as a reference for self-study.

Very nice introduction to bayesian approach. It starts by using bayesian concepts intuitively in simple examples rather than using rigorous definitions, proofs or pages full of equations, which makes easier to get started with the concepts. Well written and full of examples/applications throughout.

Read straight through

Being a person fluent in mathematics but lacking any knowledge of Bayesian statistics, I decided to read this book. It was exactly what I wanted - a book that I could read straight through without pausing. Too many books on mathematics require that you stop and think about each equation before moving on. Not so with this one.

Ideal Primer for Advanced Statistical Inference Texts

I enjoyed this book a lot. I think it is an ideal primer for more advanced texts.
In more detail - I have a strong math background, but was finding advanced texts on Statistical Inference and Machine Learning (like Bishop's book) difficult to follow because they assume strong familiarity with Baye's Rule. It turns out that there are a lot of variations and ramifications around it (no doubt because it has been around a long time) and knowledge of these are assumed, but usually not covered in other texts I have looked at. This book really dealt with the whole thing, I found Chapter 3 (illustrating with a joint probability example), and 4 and 5 (showing how it can be used to solve estimations problems) particularly enlightening. It brevity also makes it easy to tackle.
I do wish there were some problems to go with it. Still looking for a Bayesian Problem Book :)

This is an excellent introductory text on Bayesian analysis. The level is advanced enough that one will learn the concepts well, from the vantage point of examples and discussions that are well developed. It makes no attempt at being comprehensive or overly formal. Instead, it presents the concepts, using topics/scenarios that are developed in a way that gets the concepts and terminology in place. Armed with these, the reader should be in a position to begin a more rigorous in depth study. It is a great place to start, especially if you have little or no formal training in mathematical statistics.
