About the author

Prof Michael Lewis is Head of Portable Antiquities & Treasure at the British Museum and Visiting Professor in Archaeology at the University of Reading. An expert on small archaeological finds of the medieval period and of the Bayeux Tapestry. His is a member of the Bayeux Tapestry Scientific Committee advising Bayeux Museum on the redisplay and reinterpretation of the embroidery.
