Desiree Cleary is a preschool teacher in Virginia who lives her life very carefully. She has a great relationship with her father but has never gotten to know her mother and half-sister. After getting a message from her mother to come quickly to Bayside in the summer, she arrives quickly and is surprised to find her half-sister, Violet has received a message to come as well. Desiree learns that as much as she tries to plan her life carefully, there are some things that can't be planned, like her relationships. She also never intends to meet Rick Savage, a successful businessman who lives in Washington, D.C. and is in town, meeting with his fellow co-owners of Bayside Resorts. After Rick spots Desiree while he's on his Jet Ski, he can't keep his eyes off of her and he decides Desiree is who he wants.
I was delighted to head back to the Cape and visit with the crew from Bayside again! As always, Melissa Foster writes beautiful romances and I love the ones that take place at the beach. If you've read some of her other books, this one follows a similar formula because it's light-hearted, with lots of emotion and steaminess. We see some of the same faces from previous books and there are mentions of my favorite people from Seaside, even though they don't make appearances in this book. If you enjoyed the Seaside Summers books, I think you will like this one as well. I'm already looking forward to reading the next one in the series!
This story really tugged at my heartstrings. I felt for both our main heroine Desiree and her sister, Violet. Then we get to know Rick better and my heart just broke for him. Yet Rick found a way to bring sunshine and light to Desiree’s life. When Desiree finds her joy, she spreads that joy and brings both “families” together. They fit together so well it’s a beautiful thing.
I was a military wife for the first 10 years of my marriage. My son, who is in the Army, is getting married soon and we currently spend at least one day a week with his fiancée while he’s on the other side of the country. I appreciate that the author acknowledged, to some extent, what a military couple goes through in comparison to a long-distance romance when that was discussed amongst the characters.
As usual, I’m looking forward to the next Love in Bloom book. Which will bring Sally and Gage back into the orbit! Yay! I’m also looking forward to reading the stories of the rest of the friends and family from the Bayside Summers series.
I loved how Melissa was able to capture the hearts of 2 sisters that barely knew each other. This was the summer that they found each other and became not only close sisters but friends. It was heart warming.
Rick faced his demons and opened up to his brother about the night they lost their beloved dad. You can feel the hurt and anger Rick felt facing this part of his live.
Of course I loved the HEA!!!
Rick Savage was the gorgeous, sexy, confident, protective alpha that co-owned the local resort in Wellfleet, a small beach town, with his brother and best friend. He ran a multi-million dollar business back in DC but was overseeing a renovation to his resort for the summer.
Desiree Cleary was the beautiful, reserved, pre-school teacher that was running her mom's gallery during her summer break. She was shy, structured and innocent by nature but her mother and half sister were the carefree spirits, drifting wherever they needed to float for the moment.
Foster brought humor into Rick and Desiree's meeting and building of a summer relationship. It was told in a dual POV and was a quick and light hearted read. It was a journey of self discovery and healing while finding their forever love.
It moved quickly and was a sweet story with a few sexy scenes. I liked Rick's alpha tendencies mixed with a softness when directed at Desiree. I also liked Desiree's hidden sassiness that Rick brought to the forefront. And a truly refreshing change that is had no angst or drama, but was a good solid love story.
True to form, Foster set the stage of the series by introducing each of the characters of Wellfleet and giving us a glimpse of each wonderful and humorous personality. Next up is Dean and Emery'a story in Bayside Passions.
