Members of this family created false origin of Dakota Indians at Camp Coldwater. Gary Cavender of this family never saw, never heard of, or been to Camp Coldwater, yet he came up with this fake sacred story/origin story and foolishly stated it in court. After years of being debunked, one of these family members came up with a new Dakota origin story...never heard of, never documented ever through out Dakota history. Again no Federally registered Dakota/Sioux tribes agree with this nonsense. The goal of creating these stories was to get a casino by taking over federal land that was being evaluated for use. I have 30 yrs of studying and preserving Dakota history and historic sites. I discovered camp Coldwater in 1986. Hwy 55 activist a white woman made up sacred tree and spring story in 1998 trying to stop hwy 55 from going through Minnehaha Park. She gave the fake stories to Mendota Indian activists who tried to get the land for a casino. All documented. I gave their leader Bob brown a real Dakota sacred site to preserve if he would stop lying about camp Coldwater being sacred. he agreed. I gave him a pipe, and Pilot Knob and Wakan Island information to preserve these sites. He stopped lying but died 2 yrs later. Other liars resumed the sacred lies adding more. There is not ONE sacred story documented at Camp Coldwater before 1998 when the activists tried to pawn to Natives Bellecourt and Leith, then to non registered Indian activist group at Mendota. All documented. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK! BUY OLD FORT SNELLING BY MARCUS HANSEN, CITADEL IN THE WILDERNESS BY EVAN JONES. All real historians know as fact that Dakota/Sioux/Lakota etc "originated about the lakes at the head of the Rum River." This has been documented since before first contact. Origin of Dakota Indians at bdote/mdote story is a lie. $$$$$$$$$.
