I was given this book in return for an honest review.
I usually stay away from stories with psychics and the like though I’m not entirely sure why. Is it that predicting the future is outside my realm of belief or I’m scared the ability to see into the future really exists? Either way, the blurb caught my attention and I had to give it a try. Lucky for me!
The funny, sarcastic dialogue appealed to me right away. Tensley was immediately likable as she took the advice of her best friend and dealt with the resulting extraordinary situation without hysterics or the hint of a fainting spell. Her composure didn’t waver despite finding herself a duck out of water and without feathers of any kind! I’m not sure if that means she is incredibly grounded or she didn’t understand the situation. Methinks it was more of the former as she is definitely a smart one. Understanding she really did get her wish she was determined to make the best of it as well as make the most of her opportunity with Max. Reuniting with her high school sweetheart in a deliberate attempt to overcome a turning point in her life, the results were decidedly out of this world.
Intrigue, danger, steam and friendship permeate throughout the story and blend together into a story that ticked all the boxes. I want to run out and find the next book in the series and maybe get a cat… Can’t wait to see what’s up next!
Tensley visits the well-meaning Madam Claire after being urged by her best-friend Kate. Tensley accepts (but totally doubts) the “do-over” Madam Claire offers, not realizing the predicament she was putting herself in.
I love Tensley. She is not the type to sit around and wallow. S*** goes wrong and this girl does her best to deal. Now, that doesn’t mean I think she’s perfect – this girl has an enviable ability to hold a grudge. And you know what? I was on her side! Many times I read along and think “Dumb heroine! You should do ‘x’!!” But with Ten, I only ever wanted her to know what Max had been trying to do. And even then, I couldn’t get mad at her for not caring about his intentions.
Now Max is, well, s*** I don’t know! I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he felt he was doing the right thing, ok. But DUDE! There are so many things I wish he hadn’t done!! SO MANY! But not because the book isn’t well written, no no. The opposite in fact. It’s because I had grown to love Max are a person (not a fictional characters. I was heartbroken for him at so many turns.
I walked into this book expecting a light romantic comedy with some drama. I. Was. Mistaken. This book has so much depth – touching on how learning from our mistakes can be painful but necessary, not taking people in our life for granted, and that learning to love yourself is important.
Jane Lynn Daniels tells an amazing story with the perfect mix of humor, heartache, and healing.
