I also appreciate the extensive bibliography and references to scientific studies in support of the claims made. I really love this book!
Dr. Cook talks about her own personal experiences, and her deep passion for herbalism is apparent. She really knows her stuff and loves what she does; it's impossible for her enthusiasm not to rub off on you. If you're interested in learning herbalism and looking for alternative, complementary and holistic plant-based treatments to help you get and stay healthy, this book is an excellent resource! I can't put it down and it's so easy to read. Just flip open any page to learn about a new herb and see how it can benefit you and your loved ones. Learn how easy it can be to make your own herbal medicine and tasty meals. This is the only book on herbs I own that isn't filled with bright colorful photos, and it's so fascinating that photos aren't even necessary. It's that good.
Be Your Own Herbalist should be on every herbalist's bookshelf. Healing doesn't mean simply covering up the symptoms with toxic drugs and hoping for the best, and Dr. Cook helps you understand that better. Herbs are precious and I'm using them to help heal myself, my parents and others. This book is instrumental in furthering my herbal knowledge and understanding. I give it a 9 out of 10 for being so impeccably written and being such a reliable and useful resource.
