Well worth buying. My daughter and I read it together. Not only does it give us quality time it also gives me an opportunity to speak into her life. It gives her practical examples and teaching. Every preteen girl should own one.

I bought this to give me ideas on topics to discuss with my 8-11 year old Wed. night girls class. The whole book was so good I'm keeping it for my 11 year old and working on obtaining funds to give each of the girls in my class one to take home. GREAT to the point real stories for real girls in this day and age!!

As any mother, aunt, grandmother or friend can attest, growing up is hard...especially for young girls in today's society. Not only do the rules seem to change daily in regards to clothing, music and books, but the simple art of making friends changes as well. Being cool is a day to day struggle, and boys....well, it's safe to say that boys are always a mystery! Thus comes into play the book, "Between: A Girls Guide to Life." This book addresses not only the subjects of dressing cool, being popular and fitting in but it also addresses how God fits into a girls life and how He can make all the difference in the world when it comes to feeling more secure and being happy with the "you" God created. Through its well thought out sections, a young girl finds guidance, understanding and advice in easy to understand language and real life examples.

Separated into three chapters entitled: "You," "Others" and "God," this book is not only easy to navigate but easy to comprehend as well, for both growing girls finding their way in life and their mothers/loved ones as well. I was especially impressed with the down to earth, common sense approach in the section about "mean girls." As mean girls are a "given" part of any child's life, this section offered some every day examples and easy to apply advice, something that is absent from many "teen help" books on the market today.

Though this book was written for mothers and daughters as a stepping off place for discussion, I can see how it could easily work equally as well as a gift from a loving aunt, grandmother or even family friend.

Having purchased and read this book, it is my impression that this book/magazine is great for many tweens who may be feeling less than confident about themselves. However, I purchased this book for my 10 year old daughter who is seeing her body go thru changes - yet she is very grounded, has great self confidence, and is mature in her faith. She just didn't understand the book - she understands why some kids might be having a hard time and could use this book as a confidence booster and to learn to place their fears in God. But since she already does that - many of the ideas/concerns expressed in the book were foreign to her. I ended up putting it away so that she wouldn't continue to read it and get ideas that would encourage her to worry about things she has never thought about.
I can definitely see that this book could help those girls who are struggling with issues and/or newer believers and I love all the bible verses - they're great nuggets of wisdom. The book also has a neat format (magazine layout) aimed at Tweens.
Oh, one more thing - it was published in 2006 and I think some of the info about computers (ex IM-ing and MySpace) is outdated. The warnings are certainly still appropriate though.

I teach a group of girls ages 9 - 12 at church. I have struggled with finding lessons that were applicable to their daily life. I found "Between" to be a great book for me to prepare short discussion topics that have a Christian girl's perspective of challenges that tweens have at school & home.

I would buy this book for any girl in this age group. The magazine style and topics are a sure-fire winner with them. I often find girls in my class flipping through my book and reading it on their own. I would like to purchase one for everyone in the class but then they would know all my class lessons!

A Kid's Review on May 18, 2011

I am between the ages of 11-13 & I think this book is great. It offers secrets to good relationships, surviving mean girls, & being God's Girl. I love that the book is practically a thick magazine, chock-full of Godly insights. It is layed out so cool, again just like a magazine, with awesome graphics, quizzes, 7 real-girl articles that you can really use in everyday life. Not like any other book I've seen before- yet so cool!

This is such a great resource for tweens. Although it is set up like a magazine (which we've come to expect as being full to the brim with ads), each and every page is valuable and excellent material. My tween loves this book.

I bought this thinking I could read it with my granddaughter. However, I found it way too religious based for my taste. Consequently, I gave the book away to someone who is much more Christian based than I am. So just be aware that this is very religious and if that is fine with you, then the book will fit.
