Susan Whittier has gone missing and the surfing competition looks like a fake front for something more sinister. Shana and Dane must work quickly to find and rescue Susan. Local con man Jean Luc Ruse is caught up with a set of much more dangerous men and soon everything must come to a head as time starts to run out for Susan.
This is a well paced book, with plenty of sexual tension between Shana and Dane, I wasn't sure a couple of times if the character's security measures matched the storyline, but this was fairly minor and there was the odd typo towards the end. Overall a good read.
This review is based on a free copy of the book given to me by the author.
Dane has been visiting his beach shack on Martha's Vineyard to rest is weary body and soul for too many years and he's particularly in need of a rest this summer. But his old special ops commander, now governor of Massachusetts, calls on him to save a missing heiress and family friend. She was scheduled to compete in a surfing competition and now she's gone.
The governor also recruited an partner for Dane, perfect for going undercover as a surfer, the bikini bombshell and Scotland Yard detective Shana. Dane is skeptical until he realizes she has skills.
But as the case unfolds and the stakes ratchet up once they realize they're dealing with human trafficers specializing in beautiful women, Dane is in trouble. He is far too attracted to everything about his partner--and far too distracted for their well being and their survival.
They need to find the heiress and stop the kidnap ring before they let their relationship compromise everything. Or is it too late?
I've read several of the books in this Series and now I find myself in a story of the very beginning of their adventures. Its good to fill in the spaces that I didn't know about. This one had a slow start to the story, although when the action started later in the book, it really moved. I also made the realization that when it came to Dane, I liked him and I didn't, much like Shana felt about him. Even with that, I just can't seem to stay away from their stories. Peter, the Governor (the General) and Captain Lynch (Cap) have that ole' boy feeling because of their past experiences. Shana felt it and said so, she wasn't pulling any verbal punches but she also was kind of tossed into the deal. No one had really told her much, even the people who had given her this assignment. But according to what everyone knew it was supposed to be a lightweight assignment. Uh huh.
This is where Dane finds out that it was fun baiting her with his words, he found it a challenge. Its something that is continued in most of the books. In so many ways Dane and Shana were alike, and it made the dance between them even more understandable.
This story wasn't a cliffhanger because everything was handled but of course we do see where its left open for the adventures that are coming.
One of my favorite sentences came from Dane, " He wanted her, craved her but most of all he feared her." That pretty much summed up his interactions with Shana and I suspect her feelings (given her thoughts and actions) towards him.
I was given a copy of this book and now I am giving an honest review.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
