Got these to use with various sterling silver wire gauges, and it handled everything but the thickest wire (the kind you'd make a solid bangle with). It also has an almost magical ability to leave the wire without any scuff marks, so I ended up using it for more than just forming curves - none of my other tools are as gentle on silver wire, even dead soft.

Very pleased with these pliers! We originally purchased an unnamed bail making plier not realizing that Beadsmith made the same thing, and cheaper! The very same day I received and used the offbrand pliers I instantly came and searched Amazon for hopefully a better pair and found Beadsmith's pair. I am so happy to have found the Beadsmith ones because the offbrand ones we'd originally found were physically lighter metal, had more wiggle/give and couldn't handle any wire larger than 20g (I use minimum 18g wire constantly).

These Beadsmith pliers handle anything I throw at them and don't wiggle, twist or show any give. Wish we would have seen them the first time! Would have saved us $15..haha!

work for what I want (making loops in headpins and eyepins)

I bought these because I wanted to be able to make uniform loops in the ends of headpins and eye pins. I find that the loops I make in necklaces don't matter quite as much, but poorly-made/asymmetrical loops don't look good in earrings because they can result in elements not hanging right.

These are nice in that you can make the same size of loop every time. (I don't think I would ever make jump rings -- I simply don't have the patience for that.) Because each section is a cylinder instead of part of a cone, each section is of uniform diameter throughout the section. For the record, these have six different sections (three on each side).

These handle well. I have very small hands with weak wrists but that has not been a problem; I can still operate these. The handle is coated with some sort of plastic or vinyl and is comfortable to hold and will not slip in your grip. (There was no plastic or chemical smell.) The fulcrum works well and there was no rust when these were received.

One thing that may not go over as well with people is how the jaws of these close. They do touch at the very tips, but they are separated a little at the base, near the largest loops. If you are using fairly thick wire (say, 16 or 18 gauge), this will probably not be much of an issue because you should still be able to get a grip. But there might be issues if you are using thinner wire to make larger loops. (Because the tips do close, you can certainly make very small loops with thinner wire, which is mostly what I am interested in.)

Overall, I am happy with these. They do what I need (there's really not much of a learning curve, either) and I can think of some additional possibilities for future use (I am just starting out with wire). 3.5 stars.

I ordered this to make bails for the jewelry I am making. I have not used it but three times and that was with practice wire. I have not thrown away any wire that I have used and had to start over to get it right and if I have any leftover from a piece I am making either. This tool will take some practice but I do think it is already making a good addition to my jewelry toolbox that is growing larger slowly but surely. I wanted it to make the bails look more uniform and professional than I had been making them prior to learning each time I make one. Yes! I am happy with this tool even if I have to practice to get it to a fine art. I do know to be careful and be light handed with this as not to scratch the coating off any wire I am using. If anyone is wanting it for their jewelry toolbox to make bails or anything else they have in mind, get this tool. Just don't be too rough with it as you want to make sure not to strip the coating off the wire you may be working with. I really do think this is a good addition to my toolbox. Once I have had it long enough to get used to this and use it without it taking me too much time I will post about how well this is going for me and the jewelry bails.

Poorly machined. The pair I received had a lot of slack in the jaw, and they did not close flush. Wire has some side play when using these, since the plier does not evenly grip on both sides... common problem with scissor type pliers.

I ended up getting some electronics round nose pliers by Excelite for detail, and some parallel action round nose pliers for generic stuff. I highly recommend parallel action pliers for jewelry and crafts, they are much nicer to work with, and very heavy duty.

I used these a lot, this is an awesomd product that is worth it. If you do use it for rigging fishing lines, be careful to only use the middle part. If you do use the smallest part, only do so with really small game sleeves, because I crooked them on 60 pounds line, 1.4mm single barrel brass sleeve. It was my bad though...
