This case a far nicer than I expected based on the price -- the materials seem decent, the build quality is quite good and it provides excellent protection as well as a great stand for the iPad. The elastic straps are easy to engage and hold the iPad in very well -- I don't have any concern of the straps working themsekves off the iPad and it falling out of the case.

We've used this on a plane and it's perfect for propping the iPad up to watch a movie or play a game. My only gripe is that I don't really understand the purpose of the elastic band on the one side, but it doesn't detract from the case either.

Pros: very lightweight, costs about $40 less than the competition, will provide basic protection to iPad when carrying it around or sticking it in a bag, provides 5 different levels of inclination which almost guarantee a good viewing angle when watching a movie.

Cons: not confident it will protect the iPad if dropped, the case in the picture has a button clip whereas this case has a magnetic clip, the magnetic clip also tends to get in the way when trying to use the iPad, poor color choice for the strip that holds the case shut, the strip that holds the cover shut does not retract once stretched, there are visible globs of glue around the ends of the strip, and by globs I mean globs that are very noticeable.

Overall: If you are on a tight budget this is a good case that will provide basic protection to the iPad while in a bag or being carried around, but there are better, more expensive cases out there. Just keep in mind it is not the best design or best build quality, and if you drop your iPad don't expect this case to save you.

A Kid's Review on August 12, 2010
Looks like a normal paper notepad folio looks like it should last a while with normal use.

I don't really like the wrap around magnetic latch. Would prefer the magnet be built into the cover and latch onto the flap that holds the ipad.

The folding cover holds the ipad in display mode well, although the bumps on the inside cover in ineffective and not needed. I would rather see this space used for a little soft cushion to protect the screen and make the ipad more comfortable to hold when the folio is flipped open.

I don't understand the usefulness of the external elastic strap and the only real complaint is that the folio cover isn't stiff enough to stay square with the ipad when opened so you generally end up with it at a couple degrees off (Imagine folding paper in half at a slight angle and you get a corner dog eared up.)

I haven't checked out the $50 folios, but I suspect they probably are not much different.

The case is the best I've seen at this price (it's pictured elsewhere at 2 to 4 times more). It may prove to be a 5-star bargain, though I've noticed some discrepancies between the actual case and its picture. First, in one of the accompanying photos you'll notice a small round metal piece, apparently intended for snapping the flap shut. The actual case has a magnet in the flap, which is attracted to a concealed piece of metal underneath the leather in the opposing surface. (My wife tells me the magnet is better than a metal clip.) The pictured case uses black threads, for a smooth, continuous black leathery look; the actual case that I received employs white threads, which are a tad more conspicuous around all of the edges of the case and lengthwise down the center. When the iPad is inserted in the case according to the pictured method, the wide elastic strip running lengthwise down the outside of the case has no clear purpose. (It's certainly not located in a place where it might serve as a "hand grip.") After considerable experimentation, I was able to stretch it across the outside cover opposite the one holding the iPad. But since the strap wraps round the lower half of the case, it appears to provide only minimal security against the iPad's slipping out of the case, and it prohibits most uses for the machine while it's in the case. I've decided, finally, that the strap is primarily decorative and dispensable--not exactly in keeping with the resourceful efficiency on which Apple has built its reputation. (O.K. I'll accept a previous reviewer's theory that it might allow the user to strap the iPad around the front seat, with the screen facing the back seat, where the kiddies can watch movies on it.Read more ›

I just wanted something to protect the iPad and stay 'attached' to it (unlike a case). So far, so good. Good construction and the magnetic latch is just as strong after a couple months of use. And...the price is right.

Fake leather, which is ok with me. The price is right with this, most iPad cases are too expensive for what you get.

Folds out so you can stand it up in landscape mode. You can stand up in portrait, but it's a bit awkward. Flips all the way open to lay flat, with a very slight incline depending on which way you face it.

After owning it for a few weeks it's starting to get a bit flimsy, but so far still stands up like it should.

I don't get the elastic band, it serves no purpose, and is too loose to actually use to hold papers and such. I guess it's just aesthetic, but I could do without it.

The magnetic flap does its job well, but does get in the way occasionally. Very minor gripe which is really not that bad after you get used to holding it with the flap facing away from you.

I don't expect this to last for years, but it's well worth the price.
