I absolutely love the illustrations in this book. Poor bear has such difficulty staying awake for Christmas so his friends keep him busy with lots of chores to prepare for that special day. But wait and see who actually makes it through the night to give his friends the best Christmas. This tale of friendship will warm your heart. There are so many great discussion starters in this story as well. What is important in maintaining a friendship? Why is bear having trouble staying awake? Why do you think his friends gave him a quilt for Christmas? What traditions do you celebrate at Christmas? I have read this book for many years to my preschoolers and it will be a must read to my someday grandchildren!

One of my favorites

This is one of my favorite books of my daughter's. It is so well written and fun to read. Many children's books have a weird, choppy flow, but there isn't one point in this book that seems like they struggled to come up with something so they just made it work somehow. She was one when we got it and not many books held her attention for too long. This book is a little longer than many of her others, but it has always caught her eye and held her attention throughout.

Great storyline - we love the Bear Books Series! However, missed the part that this is a small book (8"x7"). Ordered another Bear book at the same time and they're usually 11"x10." This is the second time this has happened with a kids' book, so be sure to check book size if it matters to you. I'm ordering for a library, so would have been nice if all the books in a series were the same size!

My 3 kids and I all LOVE the Bear books. There aren't too many children's books a parent can read over and over and over again and not get tired of them, but I honestly never get tired of reading these. I love their message of friendship and being kind to one another. This one is cute where the friends help Bear stay awake so he doesn't miss Christmas.

This is my first introduction to the Bear books. I was looking for non-traditional Christmas books to donate and this one popped up. I liked it so much that I bought one for my son, who loves bears right now. The rhyming flows so well and is not forced in any way, and the characters are lovable! We are going to get a lot of the other bear books now.

Wonderful story, beautiful artwork, love the prose. Wonderful story about woodland friends helping their buddy stay up (for once) so he doesn't miss Christmas. They all contribute in their own way to make it special. Very sweet, lovely and memorable book. We read it every Christmas and all throughout the year, one of our favorites. Have given this as a gift to many and all love it. I would opt for the LARGE book, as the details in the pictures are so neat for the kiddos to notice. Two thumbs up. It's a mug of cocoa covered in whipped cream in front of a fire... in book form. :) Enjoy!

The story itself was great, the book however, was small in size, making the print smaller. My daughter had the book(larger in size), read it to my grandsons. Had to get the book for my collection but was disappointed about the size. Also, it went up in price right before Christmas!!! That's just wrong.......anyway, enjoyed the story from the book. Really cute!
