The tin is not large at 2 oz., but I tend to do go light with it and only apply it once in the morning. Not doing any intense styling, just interested in keeping my beard presentable and under control. I find the cedarwood scent pleasant, but imagine it won't be for everyone. It's very earthy, woodsy, almost peaty. The smell is much stronger out of the tin. I find it's notable only when first applied and fades by the time I get to work. I prefer it that way. I don't feel it's all that greasy, just enough for ease of application. Have had no issue with clothes, pillow, jackets, etc. acquiring stains from daily use. Product has a yellow tinge to it and the consistency is similar to a lip balm.
Made in Canada so they must know what they are doing!,,
The Rocky Mountain is the one for me, going to find other scents as I think they have this down well. Like I said, easy to get out of the tin, and has way more oils listed on the back than the other brands which is why it may be more plyable.........
You can not wrong with this. I am ordering more right after this.
When I get done with my morning routine, I like to wash the residue from my hands before handling food. I often have to double wash to get the oily residue feeling off of my hands - kind of like trying to wash off butter. If I touch my beard throughout the day, it will leave a sheen on my fingers. It's a minor inconvenience, but worth noting since there is a difference between moisturizing and oily.
Otherwise, the smell is a manly mixture of the cedar scent with afternotes of tea tree. I enjoy the aroma because I like woodsy scents, but my wife and daughter are not fond of the smell - not that they dislike it, it just isn't appealing to them.
In-beard it has a light hold which works well on the fly-aways but will need re-brushing to keep them under control. In all, I'm not dissatisfied with it, but I'm not sure I will repurchase either. If, however, you are growing a new beard and wondering if this is a good product, I would call it a solid purchase you won't regret.

Now about the smell... Picture yourself as a manly lumberjack in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. You head out to chop down some lumber as you usually would and spot the biggest cedar tree you've ever seen! You grin, prime your chainsaw and begin cutting into the trunk. Bits of wood and sap become entangled in your thick, lushious beard. You head back home to your log cabin kept warm by a cozy, crackling fire. You sit down and crack open a cold one... <---- That's the scent of this woodsy, manly beard balm.
I love it!
If I am to rate the balm, I do like this product. Has a great consistency and smooths down my beard as I expect it to. Beard balm is NOT beard wax, people, so don't confuse the two. This balm is not going to hold and style your beard, it is meant to smooth the hair down, and moisturise it so that it is less itchy and the rogue hairs are more manageable.
As for the smell, since smell is a matter of personal preference, I can only give my personal opinion, and that is, I couldn't stand it. I ended up giving it to a friend of mine who liked the smell. I may consider using this on a daily basis if there was a more pleasant smell available.
As for the product in use, I like that they use an "eye dropper" bottle for the oil, the oil absorbs well and, after excess is rubbed through hair and then onto my arms, there is no oily excess remaining on my hands. Same for excess balm, which is not at all "greasy". The balm seems to have a very low melting point, making application easy. While I found the oil's scent mild, cedary, and very pleasant, it was not so much so with the balm. Although not an unpleasant scent, I couldn't pick out any cedar wood scent. I also found it strong. I reminded myself that I haven't worn any scents in decades so applying the balm to the hair under my nostrils would be strong. My spouse quite liked the scent and had to get close to smell it. The balm doesn't mat down my stray, wiry hairs. It's not supposed to: while it contains beeswax, it is not "a wax". It does provide mild control and it and the oil do soften the hairs and take great care of my skin.
When it was time to get more balm, I had come to quite like the scent and decided to get more Rocky Mountain Cedarwood. However, I mistakenly ordered Sandalwood. A happy mistake, it smells great! It is also a much stronger and longer-lasting scent than the Cedarwood. The Sandalwood does have added natural sandalwood scent. E-mailing the company, I learned that the added scent is < 1% of the volume of the balm and is added because the scent of the essential oil was found to be too mild. I think they could probably half the added scent. Rocky Mountain was very generous in helping me correct my mistaken order. When my Cedarwood balm arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it had a very nice and definite cedar wood scent.
While I expect that I will sample other companies' beard oils and balms, I will definitely continue to use Rocky Mountain's products.
I got the Cedar scent and its spot on. Doesn't irritate my skin, works great. Conditions well, isn't greasy. Lasts all day. Has a nice shine. The scent lasts a long time, I could smell it the next morning still, it was weak but still there. Washes out well too.
Just shut up and hit purchase now.
Very unpleasant smells look like terebantine to clean paint brushes and yet I own all the other Rocky Mountain Beard Balm and the corresponding oils and I adore them.
Its not a thick wax for shaping. Definitely have to wash hands after.
A bit greasy lol.
