Verity was engaged to the now groom when she found out he was cheating and had no intention of marrying her. Deciding to throw caution to the wind, she goes with Truth to Vegas and they party it up but don't remember much about their trip and return to their normal lives. However, fate has a way of intervening and Truth and Verity come together again. Truth's past is reappearing putting Verity in danger, how can he protect her without letting her go?
There is some really fun moments in the story. Truth is a big burly standoffish character so it takes a bit to get where his feelings are with Verity. Another great read in the Dixie Wardens Rejects series.
That was the prologue heading and it hooked me right there. I love crazy ex-girlfriends in stories, but it didn’t turn out like I expected. The conflict did not center around the cheating exes that helped throw Truth and Verity together. They were only a minor and humorous part of the story.
Truth is a member of the Dixie Warden Rejects MC, former military, bladesmith, instructor at the police and fire academy, and total badass in general. He catches his live in girlfriend screwing his cousin… on his beloved motorcycle. What’s funny is that he’s more upset about the motorcycle than he is about losing the girl.
Verity isn’t your typical girl done wrong. She didn’t waste time pining for Kenneth. Not when she took up with Truth the night of the wedding and ended up being a bride after all on a fateful drunken night in Vegas. Too bad they couldn’t remember it…
I liked that Lani Lynn made Verity a real woman with the same body issues we all have but she doesn’t dwell on them. She’s a strong woman who takes no crap off anyone. She proves this over and over when she has to defend herself and Truth throughout the whole book.
There are some twists and turns we don’t see coming. A bad guy lurking in the background who brings some heartache to our hero and heroine.
Overall, the novel was a quick read with a dose of heat and some humor injected here and there. This was my first Lani Lynn Vale book and I really enjoyed it. Since I haven’t read any of the previous Dixie Warden Rejects books, I didn’t know the backstory of some of the secondary characters but that didn’t hinder the story at all. I felt the chemistry between Truth and Verity from the moment they laid eyes on each other.
I give this book 5 bearded stars!
“What’s your name?” he asked, breaking into my thoughts.
“Verity,” I answered immediately. “What’s yours?”
“My name means Truth,” I informed him.
“I know,” he answered. “That’s why I smiled.”
“Two peas in a pod,” I shrugged.
AND, I liked both characters. Verity was a little too obsessed about her weight (which is something I don't understand in general from other women so it was a little distracting but still a believable part of the story), but overall I felt like this one was well written and a good way to continue the Rejects novels.
