Editorial Reviews

2012 release from the Australian band (not to be confused with the critically acclaimed Oregon band who split in '98). In 2010, at a friend's farmhouse in Eagle Bay, Western Australia, Pond piled in with all their instruments, amplifiers, friends, recording equipment and Sam Ford to record Beard Wives Denim. After two weeks of Lord of the Flies-esque bonding with Frisbee and guitars and absolutely no religion or wood chopping or wives or beards, the album was finished. It a whole lot less like Neil Young, the Grateful Dead or the Band than Pond had imagined when the idea started, but it's the thought that counts. Mixed by Kevin Parker and Rob Grant at Poon's Head Studio in Perth, Beard Wives Denim is an audio diary of ten friends' strange, terrible and blissful time in the country trying in vain to be a wholesome family band. It sounds just like it, distorted and woozy and fractured and ultimately nostalgic and loving.

To the other reviewer. Just cause you bought the wrong album doesn't give you the right to piss on this band. Take you nostalgia for the crappy portland band elsewhere.
And do a little research before spreading disinformation. The band has 5 members.
To say it's another Tame Impala album would be a compliment of epic proportions.

4th album from this Australian band with members of Tame Impala--cranked-up psychedelic
guitar pop/rock; sparkly, melodic sky fireworks; beautifully raucous rock `n' roll drug music;
dazzle-trippy headphone explosions. The songs have a sort of charmingly happy, wide-eyed,
schizophrenic Alice In Wonderland quality. It's a 60s influenced winding path exploration, where
bright colors and fantastic auditorily enhanced imagery cocoons the listener in a vibrant tunnel of
acid noise love. Similarities to Tame Impala, Bubble Puppy, early Flaming Lips, Small Faces,
MGMT, even Led Zeppelin.

This album surpassed all my expectations. I was a huge fan of Pond's last album Frond and I can easily say I liked this one even better. This album feels like a cosmic ride on some crazy space waves. You surf from one track to another and there's never a dull moment. The album is a joy to listen to and before you even know it the ride is over. Yet by the time this album is over I guarantee you'll be ready to take the ride all over again. I also recommend checking out the Tame/Pond collective's other band Mink Mussel Creek.

Fans of Tame Impala rejoice. In fact, Tame was merely my gateway drug into the Australian psych-rock scene, this album being the zenith for me. Nick Allbrook for President. Now to listen to Mink Mussel Creek and The Growl...

I like many others heard about this album from being a massive Tame Impala fan. I expected it to be good but not this good! It starts out rocking hard and shows the range of styles the singer has. The bass playing sounds massive on this album and the guitars are melodic and distorted much like Flaming Lips album clouds taste metallic. Just about every song is beautifully crafted albeit a little spastic in nature. One song will fade into another part completely unrelated and this serves to keep the listener on their toes never knowing what to expect. "Where does it go when it explodes?" gives way to a bass groove part that sounds like Planet Telex. If you like Temples, Tame Impala, Flaming LIps, or MGMT get this album please.

This album doesn't really sound all that much like a Tame Impala record to me. It's pretty awesome in it's own right.

Damn if I know what that means but "Beard Wives Denim" is the caterpillar's spats: a very good piece of riff-ery and highly recommended.
