Equal parts humorous and informative, The Bearded Gentleman is a must-read for guys who have or are considering facial hair. Burns and Peterkin provide thoughtful advice on growing, styling and upkeep, with advice from some of the industry’s leading experts along the way. Did you know there are right and wrong beard styles for your face shape? Read this book and look your best.
—Brian Boye, Fashion & Grooming Director, Men’s Health

Facial hair is totally BACK! But anyone attempting to navigate this treacherous and codified world without consulting Nick Burns and Allan Peterkin is destined for gruesome public humiliation.
—Simon Doonan, author of Eccentric Glamour

This new book on beards helps men navigate the treacherous waters between laughingstock and Jake Gyllenhaal.... [the book] suggests age-appropriate styles, advising, 'Never apologize, never explain.'
New York Times

If knowledge is power, The Bearded Gentleman will put any pogonophobic to rest. Authors Allan Peterkin and Nick Burns have poured untold amounts of hours into detailing the history and future of facial hair, along with witty (but entirely practical) advice.
Nylon Magazine

From the basic (avoiding ingrowns) to the very specific (achieving the ultimate Klingon), this definitive manual offers advice and instructions for dozens of looks. Our suggestion? Leave the Fu Manchu to the amateurs and use this book to coin your own signature style.

For years I went between having a beard, being clean shaven, beard, clean shaven...you get the picture. Never did I know that there were so many types, shapes and styles of beards. This book lays it all out on the bathroom vanity, so to speak. What to use, how to use it, how to cut, what could look good on you, some history of beard types. A great read for somebody looking to experiment with their image. My face has never been happier. Thank you! I can't wait to try them all!

Had the occasion to meet Nick at a signing at Border's San Francisco Center. Nice guy! But about the book - it's a great read, tons of historical content, so it's not just about style, it's about the whole history of the bearded gent. We had to give it as a gift to a friend, but not until we went through it. Written in a casual informative style, you'll learn a lot as well as enjoy the different styles of goatees, soul patches and beards (who knew there were so many options!). Fun for the fans of the bearded gent and the bearded gent in your life.

To tell the truth, I wasn't expecting to much from this book. But. It has been very helpful. My beard was squaring off my chin and I didn't like the look very much. The book has many drawings and the text covers about every situation I can imagine and I have fixed my squared-off chin. Excuse me, my door-bell is ringing - pretty sure its that outrageous blonde next door. (heh-heh)

I bought this for my Dad and he LOVED it! He liked it so much that even though I am unable to grow a beard (I'm a lady), I had to read it for myself. I usually avoid books on grooming because they are all hype and no substance, but this one is different. It has great information and is a really fun read. It's a great gift for any of the men in your life who have or would like to have facial hair.

I bought this for my husband to try different beard styles. He just grew his first full beard this year and wasn't experienced on how to maintain one. This book has good pictures and descriptions to follow.

not many styles that you could take to your barber. Was not impressed, however, was not that expensive. I would not recommend to anyone. If you like a particular style you see in a magazine, just rip it out, would will fare better than buying this book with few Illustrations, and lots of chatter.

The book is just okay. The book covers a few beard and mustache styles that I haven't seen on beard sites. The book also discusses sideburn styles, if you're interested in that sort of thing. The resources section is probably the best part of the book, although I don't think it justifies the $9.99 I spent on the Kindle version of this book.

The book was disappointing in that approximately 30 pages is devoted to shaving. I bought a book to learn about beards, not shaving.
