Design wise, these boots are very similar to my older brand name boots. However, there are pretty noticeable differences in quality. This first thing I noticed is that there is white glue/ adhesive on the edges of the boot where upper part of the boot meets the sole. Since I bought the black boots, this manufacturer error was glaring. The stringy excess can be removed, but this is not a good sign for quality. Another difference is the quality of the materials that they use for the sole and inner/outer parts of the boot. The sole is rubbery but not flexible...I expect it will take more time to 'break in'. The sheepskin lining, while undoubtably animal fur, is thin and rough to the touch. The closest texture I can compare it to would matted dolls' hair. My feet can detect the difference in texture, but just barely...the main issue is thickness of the inner lining. In terms of quality, Bearpaw is on typical end of cheaply mass manufactured products from China...I expect this product to last 2 to maybe 3 (if lucky) winters max.
My primary concern with the shoes was sizing, since Amazon doesn't sell half sizes. Most reviews bought the larger size up, but I did the opposite. As stated in the care instructions, these type of boots stretch over time, so buying the larger size might result in awkward stomping from too large boots in time.
My foot is 235cm from heel to toe and I ordered a size 6 (230 in Asian sizing, 4 in European) which fits properly with some wiggle room wearing normal cotton socks. I normally wear a size 6.5. I suppose if you plan to wear only fuzzy socks, a half size might be appropriate.
Pro: Cost, fast shipping, design, warmth
Con: overall quality: visible glue, rough inner lining, sizing
Quick evaluation: They aren't as good as their main competitors', but they're acceptable quality at less than a quarter of the price. Not sure if I'll buy again.
At first I got nervous because they were way too tight and small, and I almost thought I should return them, but after a day of wearing them they loosened up perfectly and I'm SO glad I didn't trade them in for a larger size. They'd be way too big.
I also sprayed them with the waterproofing spray and I've gone out in 6+ inches of snow in them and they kept me warm and dry. Theyre also non slip and great for walking around in. You need these boots!
Seeing them online made me cringe a bit, they don't look very cute but they are adorable in person. For sizing, make sure you pick the size you normally wear with regular sneakers or shoes. However, if you're in the 1/2's (i.e: 6.5 or 7.5) please opt for a size 7 or 8 respectively.
This was a wonderful investment and I've been wearing these boots for 3 months and they are still in good condition.
If you can afford Ugg boots, go for it but if you're on a budget like me, buy these shoes!
