I normally wear an 8.5 or 9 in shoes, so I ordered the size 9 based on the reviews that said these run small. Initially, they fit perfectly, but within a couple hours the wool compacted and my foot had way too much room.
I loved the cute style, warmth and comfort of the boots, though, and wanted to get a second pair. So, I went to Bearpaw's site and measured my foot. The second pair I ordered are size 8 and while they were snug initially, within a couple hours they became the perfect fit.
My advice would be to order them because they are an awesome alternative to expensive U&&s, but check your size on the Bearpaw site first. (And remember that the boots will become roomier after a bit of wear.)
The people who buy 2 sizes larger have imho bigger problems than just their boots. If you normally wear shoes that don't fall off your feet, then get a half size smaller. The people who buy a few sizes larger probably just like their shoes really loose, but I personally like my shoes snug. If you're like me, DON'T GET A BIGGER SIZE! 0.5 - 1 size SMALLER is what you should get.
Pros: very warm, very nice color, high quality (the emmas are better made than the evas), made out of real sheepskin with real suede, very sturdy rubber sole
Cons: the fur started gathering at one point in the sole, but I wanted to get a sheepskin insole anyway so that'll cover it up. Just make sure you spray it with a suede protector spray!
Overall: very pretty boots!
From all the mixed reviews on how these boots fit, I decided to visit Bearpaw's official site and looked at their size chart. I'm typically a size 8; Bearpaw's measurements 9.50”. So to err on the safe side I purchased a size 9; Bearpaw's measurements 9.88”. At first glance I thought they would be too big, but trying them on, my toes came to the very front when pushing on them from the outside. So I am glad that I purchased a size bigger than my normal size. The fur lining is THICK.
These boots feel very heavy on my feet, definitely heavier than the Faded Glory tall boots from Walmart. It's awkward when you first walk in them, because the seam above the ankle bends inwards; I'm hoping that will go away after breaking them in.
I purchased these boots in black to be versatile with all my fleece lined leggings. These boots did come out of the box looking dirty! That was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I understand that black will show everything but there were places where the suede actually looked worn out, as if they had been worn. I also found specks of what appears to be wax, because it cannot be scraped off.
The suede does not feel soft to the touch on the outside of these boots, it feels rough. The black fur on the inside of the black boots feels somewhat soft. BE AWARE: There is white fur on the inside of the bottom of the black boots.
The seam going up both sides of the boots shows some kind of white string that stands out from the black thread; also disappointing.
For paying $40 for these boots I expected them to at least be clean and be sewed correctly on the seams.
Overall I think these boots could have been put together MUCH better. I don't think I'll be buying from Bearpaw again. They were not worth the price.
