Size: I'm a size five and they fit perfectly. The back heel/ankle support doesn't cut into my ankle and helps keep the boot on. The knit has an inner lining that helps them not stretch out much but, isn't too tight to be uncomfortable.
Color: True to the image provided. I received mine in Linen and it's a very tasteful off-white/cream. Very light in color.
Weather: Here's the kicker. So I did dodge puddles on my walk, to the best of my ability (if you know Seattle this is nearly impossible), and these boots kept my feet DRY and WARM. I was shocked! I don't see them holding up in a puddle jumping contest or hiking through a foot of snow but, I was pleasantly surprised they held up during the wind and consistent rain. The sole is thick and that helped a lot. It seemed like the knit was somewhat water repellant? Not too sure but, they weren't damp and neither were my socks after.
Comfort: If you're not used to UGGS or Bearpaw style boots it can take a little getting used to. As a seasoned pro, they're very comfortable. I walk everywhere I go or use the metro, so I tend to wear out shoes quick. They're holding up so far and I have a feeling they will hold up for a long time. I will have to edit this review after a few months of wear to see if they stretch out.
Note: I prefer Bearpaw over UGGS. They're cheaper and a ton more durable. I've owned the Boetis style boot the longest (one year for sure) and the sole finally has a leak (when walking in the rain) due to a previous horrid encounter with broken glass. No damage to me thanks to the boots but now they have a slice through the sole. The other unscathed boot is still holding strong.
The Bearpaw Women's Knit Tall Boots are a welcome addition to my shoe wardrobe. Yes, I live in Southern California and no, we don't get much rain, so why have multiple pairs of boots, you may wonder.
To answer: 99% of my shoes are open toed, with sling backs or dressy slides that can be worn to meetings and most events with slacks. I have one pair of dressy, good Coach black pumps with closed toes and closed heels.
The style now for casual pants is "skinny" or "super skinny." With the calf and ankle portion being skin tight, these boots easily fit right over jeans or casual pants and the three fastener ornaments catch the eye. The Bearpaw boots may be worn either folded down, as shown in the first picture, or pulled all the way up, which also displays three ornaments that look like fasteners.
Yesterday we had a get-together at our home and within fifteen minutes my new boots were the topic of conversation. The family was gathered to commemorate the ten year anniversary of my husband's death, so it was a coming together to celebrate our strengths and to also make note that we faced a crisis or two together in a circle of love. We did have a nice meal, a reading of the Bible and our individual thoughts about his life. Some family members were naturally tearful. We miss "Papa" so very much and love him as much as ever.
At the beginning of this event came lightness and laughter with the compliments on my boots! Never did I expect that focus and it actually helped us and gave a relief in the midst of our sadness.
In the purchase, a contributing factor was shopping first in a store that offers many choices. I liked boots in the store that looked so much like these, but of a different brand that charged approximately $100 more. When I started to shop elsewhere I saw these boots by Bearpaw and felt happy that I could have the boots I loved and also have MORE BANG FOR THE BUCK. That is the name of the game, after-all.
Added to the stylishness, I have to make mention that my feet are warm in the morning as I go about my outdoor chores. Today's tasks included bringing in trash cans from the front, picking up branches that had fallen from our Palo Alto Liquid Amber Trees and so on. In addition to my feet being warm they were more protected than when I wear my usual flip flops around the house.
These do not come in a half size and I went a half size down and I made the right decision. If I had been incorrect, there is a more than generous return policy. These boots are good to wear in the cold, but I would not select for rain due to the knit stitch fabric. Again, I live in Southern California so these will get lots of great wear. I am excited to go to Council PTA tonight with my new boots. If not commented on, I know they are a step-up from my normal black leather slides. When you look better you feel better.
I highly recommend these boots for comfort and style. Gray goes with everything and my black bag matches the side decoration on the boots. I am a firm believer that a flair of color should come from a scarf or blouse and the shoes and bag should not be flashy. We all have our individual tastes and these come in a variety of colors to satisfy individual preferences.
