This book is a real page turner. I loved it! The prologue of Beasthood grabbed me right away and set the tone for what was to come. This isn't the typical werewolf story. There is an entirely different world presented to us as to how they live and work as a community. We learn about their traditions and beliefs.
Jaz, the main character, was scared, angry and confused by what happened to her. She didn't know who to trust or what she was to become. I enjoyed watching her evolve and become stronger and more courageous. I really liked her. She could hold her own.
Nik, on the other hand, I'm still not sure about. He needs to do what is right for the pack but some of his decisions confused and frustrated me. He seems to be holding back too much, I think he needs to take a step back and let Jaz in more. I feel he could have done more to help Jaz with her transition even if he thought she wanted no part of him.
The story is well written with very visiual details. I could picture the community and the characters. The characters were well developed and I wasn't sure who I could trust and I like that in a book, it keeps the story interesting.
This story really worked on my emotions - fear, anxiety, frustration, anger. I was very emotionally invested in the characters and the story. The most disappointing thing is that there is not yet a sequel, I was all set to buy the next book. I need more! I loved the book and highly recommend it.
The premise of the story is good. It is well written and I could tell that a lot of thought had gone into the characters - you want to know what will happen to them and what makes them tick. They are certainly individuals with distinct and well developed personalities.
The character of Jaz grew on me. I wasn't sure about her at first, but she turned out to be strong, courageous, and loyal. She was scared, angry and confused by what happened to her. She didn't know who she could trust or what to make of the "fairytale" world she was thrust into. I enjoyed watching her evolve and become stronger and more courageous. By the end of the story, I really liked her. And thoroughly enjoyed watching her hold her own.
Driver (Nik) is a strong character. He is complex, honest, real and an incredibly handsome alpha male.
When combined, he and Jaz - you find yourself wanting to know everything about them and see where they are going, what they will become, and what they grow to mean to each other.
The story has layer upon layer of interest as seen through the lives of the various characters.
Alf, Carr, Fraya and the other characters added so much color to the story. Through exiles and executions, you watch the story unfold. There are kidnappings and adoptions, good friends and evil angst. I liked the whole kidnap sequence and the adoption theme. The intrigue leaving you wondering who the "Cloaked Man" is.
The visual details are fantastic. The descriptions vivid, so that the minds eye can picture exactly what is taking place. The emotions are on a roller coaster as well. The reader will coast from fear to frustration in minutes. It was very easy to become emotionally involved and invested in the story.
The flashbacks add depth and detail - and highlight things that later seamlessly blend in to the story.
I cannot wait to read the next installment to the series.
This is certainly a new twist on the supernatural!
