Coming out the gates with an intensely captivating opening, "Beater" had potential to be a 5 star read. However, it strings you along to a predictably twisted ending that reads much like a straight to DVD B-List movie. Although the intrigue of male abuse drew me in, it lacked edge but was full of mystery, light hearted humor and short chapters that made for an easy read.
