I got this box set around 1983. Even though it does not contain several noteworthy hit singles, The Beatles Collection is a start for any Beatles fan who does not have their original LPs. All of their original British LPs are in there. It also contains a compilation LP of B-sides and odds and ends called Rarities. It does not include Magical Mystery Tour as that LP was an American creation and was not part of The Beatles canon when the box set was issued in 1978. If you want to get the complete collection, just get the Past Masters double LP as well as the Magical Mystery Tour LP and you will get every Beatle track issued commercially when they dominated the charts.

I bought this in, I think, 1983 from a company called Blue Angel that advertised in Rolling Stone. I kept seeing the ads for years, and when the price came down to where it seemed doable, I bought. I think I payed $89 for it. I bought from them again a box set of the Who, with every album up to Who Are You. I then bought the Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland album, with the naked women cover, but it had a sticker on it, which seemed to me a terrible thing to do since the cover was the whole point of buying this from them so I never did business with them again. I loved the Beatle box, though. Some of the stereo mixes were not that great, but still, to have all these albums in one box. Fantastic. As someone else mentioned, this didn't include a lot of Beatle hits. That is because the Beatles believed in not putting singles on albums, keeping them separate, believing this would mean if you bought a single, and an album, there would be no crossover. Blue Angel, in fact, sold an EP collection that included many of the songs missing from this collection.

The box is slightly frayed. Only 2 of the albums were ever played. Others have never been on a turn table.
