There are two things I would tweak about this game, hence the 4 star rating instead of five...one is that the song lyrics are very small on the screen, and they move quickly, which makes them blurry and difficult to read. The second is that the guitar/bass notes must be strummed a split-second before you hear them played in order for them to count towards your score, which makes it challenging...I am a musician, and instinct tells me to hit the strum bar on the beat as I hear the note, but if I do that, I'm too late and miss the note. Overall, though, this is a very engaging game that is fun for Beatles fans of any age.
About two weeks later, I purchased the Rockband 2 bundle which included the Rockband 2 game CD, drum set, guitar and microphone. Now I was ready to finally play the Beatles Rockband. At first, for some crazy reason, I wanted to be Ringo.
I hooked up the drums to my Wii console, inserted The Beatles Rockband game CD and within minutes, I was jamming with the Fab Four. Then, after a few hours, I switched to guitar and have stayed on the guitar ever since (sorry Ringo).
The Beatles Rockband is more than just a video game... it's the story of The Beatles from their early days at The Cavern all the way to the now famous Roof Top Concert (the last time the four of them played together).
The game is packed with classic videos & photos, but to be able to view them, you have to play the game and unlock the keys to them. To do that, you have to play the story board from the beginning at The Cavern all the way through to the Roof Top Concert. Once you have achieved this, then you will unlock all the photos & videos, which are worth seeing!
The video and audio quality of The Beatles Rockband game is excellent. In every song on the CD, you get to watch the boys playing just as they did back in those days. One funny note... Paul, George and John are playing their bass/ guitars, but they don't have guitar straps...lol
In addition to the songs listed on the CD, you can download more Beatles songs thru the Internet by using your Wii Console. This will provide you with hours & hours of jam sessions with the Fab Four, bringing back all those wonderful memories of the greatest band that every played... The Beatles!
They did a fantastic job of splitting out the different instruments, the vocals and with great sound quality. They also decided to put the studio versions on this product, and we are delighted. To me, this makes the game more fun.
Also, I'm a software engineer by trade, and recognize the subtleties involved with making something of this quality. If there are bugs, I don't know where they'd be after having played the songs 5-10 times each. It is accurate and does a great job evaluating your performance. I know a lot of gamers like a product with higher difficulty, but this is one of those where the kids can pick it up quickly and everybody can get into it. There are higher levels for being challenged. I'll amend this review when we get to it. For now, we're too busy rockin' out.
