This book was one I loved the blurb of the book and was intrigued by how the story would play out. Reading the book was a bit slow at first, because you had to grieve the loss which Cassidy has gone through. Moving back to her home town was hard, but what was harder was facing up the possibility that her life will never be the same as before. Cassidy is a strong lady who has been beaten down to the point she can't see any future for herself. But meeting a man from her past who challenges her and pushes her past her own boundaries. Cassidy has two wonderful parents, but they aren't conventional in any sense of the word, but they support Cassidy and want her to heal in the right way. Her father was the parent I preferred as you could see the love he has for his family and he supported any choice his family made, especially with Cassidy. I enjoyed reading about Cassidy and her family because it shows how you have to live every day for yourself and no-one else. Other people's opinions don't mean anything and gossip can be just that.
Desi is a man who is haunted by his past and his families past. Coming home was the only option for him and he refused to let anyone close to him. But he sees Cassidy and sees something in her that can be healed, so he makes it his mission to help her recover in a positive way. but what happens when his darkness is infiltrated by the light Cassidy seems to develop over her time healing at home. He is a fantastic personal trainer but you can tell his past haunts him and refuses to let people help him heal. When he finally tells Cassidy his secret, I was shocked about how he felt. Watching how Desi would close himself off made my heart break, but his reasoning was completely understandable.
Cassidy and Desi as friends were fantastic, as they just worked. Neither one pushed the other's emotions too far and neither one backed down from a challenge. I was shouting at one point for them to get together and I was relieved when they did. But can you keep your heart from getting involved when you try not to? They were hot together and hotter after everything was revealed near the end of the book!
The book has everything in which I love the most. There were secrets, romance, sibling love/annoyance, passion and weird parents. The twist at the end of the book I did not expect but it made the book five stars for me and more. I recommend people read this and fall in love with Desi like I did!
Desi has returned home to help his dad and brother out. His mum just disappeared one day when he was eleven, which has left scares that have yet to heal. He's trying to set up his own business whilst helping his brother run his dad's fish and chip shop. Whilst his dad recovers from an illness. Desi is quite, reserved, standoffish and appears moody and brooding. He holds everything in.
A chance encounter sees the to becoming friends as much as Desi allows them to be and slowly both seem to start healing just aliitle.
This is a well written engaging story. Witty, sexy and enthralling and with several , wow I didn't expect that moments it's a romance story that's not sugar coated in the least. I thoughly enjoyed the chemistry and the story told.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
Cassidy thought she had her life figured out when she got married because she was trying so hard to be someone she wasn't. Now she has returned home broken for heartache with nothing to show for it. Desi comes home to help his family out but doesn't want to be there of course because he is still healing from the childhood he had. Two broken people form an unlikely relationship filled with despair. Can they open up and let each other heal what is broken. It is a beautiful story and I loved Desi because he only let people see what he wanted them to see. Cassidy could see more because she was just as broken has he was. It's all about finding the light in the darkness of your pain.
This is an amazing storyline, which is well written and had me enthralled and intrigued throughout. I love this authors work, and she never disappoints. I recommend this author for all romance lovers.
