"The fourth and final installment picks up after the massive cliff-hanger in Beautiful Chaos and doesn't disappoint."―Entertainment Weekly
"The Beautiful Creatures novels contain a potent mix of the gothic, the mythic, and the magical. Readers can look forward to more of what they love in the final installment, Beautiful Redemption, as they follow Ethan's compelling journey to its bittersweet close. With original characters, complex world building, and crackling prose, this is masterful storytelling."―Deborah Harkness, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches

The cliffhanger from the last book has Ethan jumping off the town's water tower. But, since there's a new book, there must be more to the story. And, there is. Ethan discovers that, contrary to what he thought when he flung himself off the tower, he wasn't really supposed to have died, and he restores the balance of the worlds. Again.
I will say I did not see the final twist coming--which was pretty cool. There were a lot of surprises and twists I just didn't expect. I liked the plot of the story much better than the characters. I would love to read a series about John and the young librarian. I started liking these two and Link and Ripley so much more than Ethan and Lena, who are just so depressing and whiny. I just felt like the characters didn't change at all and I never really understood why the two main characters loved one another. "Just because" is too immature a reason for long-lasting love, but that seemed to be the case. I also find it interesting that the whole story was told from a male perspective, Ethan, but the book is so obviously a book for females. If you love paranormal romance, you'll probably like these.
No spoilers here but a few comments and cheer. The southern touches were nicely done. I laughed out loud through the series every time they nailed the actions or comments of someone who grew up in the south and kept their eyes and ears open. Job well done.
What a fascinating view of the other side. I could read several more books about the topics they brushed against and there must be at least ten loose threads to flesh out.
I read all of the books to see where the characters were going and I greatly enjoyed the journey. Cheers
But this last book was a dud. The pace of the book seemed rushed. Things came too easily to everybody! In the first three books, Lena and Ethan had to fight for their love and their loved ones. It was life and death in most cases.
Not the case here.....the big bad wolves were defeated within maybe a ONE page span in this book whereas it took 3 books to build them up and show how evil and powerful they were. I don't understand. It seemed very anticlimactic.
I know this is the last book. But please do justice to the wonderful story you built up~! The book was an easy read. A hundred pages more wouldn't have been a big deal. I would've gladly read a longer book if it meant better resolution.
And speaking of resolution: the final "death" in this book was the BIGGEST disappointment. After it happened, I didn't read the remaining 4 chapters. I was over the book and story.
So many characters had died and come back to life. Why was it necessary to write this character off permanently, is what I want to ask???
She was the heart of it all....always knew the important information and got things done.
Anyway......it's not the worst book to be written....just that the authors didn't deliver on the expectations they built over the series.
I would have given the book 4 stars....but now maybe 3.5. Don't think I'll be seeing the movie.
If you've made it this far in the series you are already familiar with the cast of characters, Ethan, Lena, Link, Ridley, Amma and Macon playing the starring roles. It's told from Lena and Ethan's point-of-view so that gives it some more interest. I love all the characters and couldn't wait to see how they dealt with things and how things would play out.
The plot was exciting and had me flipping the pages during my vacation as fast as I could. It was easy to fall right into the setting of the novel. I love that they used the southern gothic setting/plot for this series, it's really what drew me in and kept me coming back.
A great final chapter. I look forward to the next series, but I like how this one is put to a kind of open yet great closing. If you haven't started this series you must. If you are waiting to finish the series, you must. I can't believe I waited this long to finish it up. I will miss more about Lena and Ethan, but look forward to Ridley and Link's story next.
