Beautiful Redemption: Library Edition (Beautiful Creatures) Preloaded Digital Audio Player – January 1, 2012
Ethan Wate has spent most of his life longing to escape the stiflingly small Southern town of Gatlin. He never thought he would meet the girl of his dreams, Lena Duchannes, who unveiled a secretive, powerful, and cursed side of Gatlin, hidden in plain sight. And he never could have expected that he would be forced to leave behind everyone and everything he cares about. So when Ethan awakes after the chilling events of the Eighteenth Moon, he has only one goal: to find a way to return to Lena and the ones he loves.
Back in Gatlin, Lena is making her own bargains for Ethan's return, vowing to do whatever it takes -- even if that means trusting old enemies or risking the lives of the family and friends Ethan left to protect.
Worlds apart, Ethan and Lena must once again work together to rewrite their fate, in this stunning finale to the Beautiful Creatures series.

Review
"The Beautiful Creatures novels contain a potent mix of the gothic, the mythic, and the magical. Readers can look forward to more of what they love in the final installment, Beautiful Redemption, as they follow Ethan's compelling journey to its bittersweet close. With original characters, complex world building, and crackling prose, this is masterful storytelling."―Deborah Harkness, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Discovery of Witches --This text refers to the paperback edition.

I liked that the authors approached this with both Ethan's and Lena's POV. If you remember where Beautiful Chaos left off, then you can see how the division of Beautiful Redemption makes complete sense. I am glad we were finally able to be in Lena's mind and see how she truly felt about Ethan, and that it wasn't just his one-sided feelings continuing their relationship. Throughout this final novel we are able to see how strongly Ethan and Lena feel toward one another and how great their characters truly are together. The authors also did a great job giving us the sense of urgency and need the characters had with solving the Ethan dilemma...if this dilemma could even be solved.
I continued to love all the amazing characters that Garcia and Stohl created. We get to see a more vulnerable side to Link, a slightly softer side to Ridley, a heroic side to John Breed, a sensitive side to Liv, a vulnerable side to Amma, and the continuing protective side to Macon. We are even introduced to a few new characters, one of which was Xavier who really grabbed at my heart.
One thing I liked about this book is that it didn't have the repetitiveness found in the first two books in particular. We are put right into the action and thick of things from the start. This is a journey with a time limit, and the flow and pace of the storyline reflected that urgency. But the pace of the story did not detract from the beautiful writing that Garcia and Stohl have developed together. As we find ourselves in different scenes and situations, their words are able to paint a graphic picture of what is going on and what the scene looks like, pulling the reader right in. I think I expected a little more action than we received, but the action that did happen was well played.
The ending was touching and well thought out. It wasn't the perfect HEA. There was still loss. This wouldn't be the Caster world without consequences. But it was a satisfactory ending for me. I felt emotionally attached to Ethan and Lena's story and appreciated how the authors brought things together for me in the end.
Bottomline: The is a great series, with beautiful writing and amazing characters. Beautiful Redemption proved itself as a terrific final chapter that did not disappoint me. I definitely recommend this series.
Audiobook Narrator Review:
This series continued with the same narrator, Kevin T. Collins, for Ethan throughout all the books, which I really liked. I enjoyed his voices for most of the characters, and liked how he represented Ethan in this final installment. He wasn't quite as whiny as the last book. The narrator for Lena, Khristine Hvam, was good and had a lovely voice, though her pauses between segments were a bit more abrupt than the other narrator. I was also used to his voices for Link, and others, so it took some adjusting. But she still did a good job, and overall I'm very glad I chose to listen to the entire series on audio, even though I own all the hardcover books.
The jumped-off-a-water-tower Ethan finds himself in the Otherworld, a charming world of the dead that resembles Gatlin. Here, the writing duo makes a ghostly realm that is thoughtful and fun in its rules. However, when Ethan learns he was truly not meant to have died, he digs deeper into the supernatural realm to find a way out. This synopsis, I'm afraid, only scratches the surface of a truly delightful novel that not only aims to bring back Ethan but to tie up all other loose ends of the series.
The fantasy is creative, Southern and gothic--a winning combination splashed with a bit of teen culture and wondrous characters. The writing, which I have always liked, has hit its stride, and the characters know themselves. Garcia and Stohl are comfortable in both the normal and supernatural worlds of Gatlin and it shows.
My husband accused me of reading this in one sitting (not quite true), but it really was one of those novels I had trouble putting down. This is a gorgeously told story and a most satisfying conclusion to what has been a stellar series.
In the previous novel, Ethan Wate makes a rather selfless decision with the hope that it would remedy all of the major supernatural problems for his loved ones. This book chronicles his journey in surviving the consequences of that decision. I could probably elaborate, but I really don’t want to risk spoiling this for anyone who has not read the predecessors of Beautiful Redemption. I had a vague notion of what the end-goal for this book, and as such the series in its entirety, would consist of. Yet I had no idea just how the authors planned on reaching that goal, and I’m very happy to add that I really couldn’t predict what was going to happen (for the most part) from the first page unto the last.
I really don’t like blatant predictability in my books, which installment three was chalk-full of. Beautiful Redemption was very hard to predict. There is a very important confrontation that occurs midway through the novel with a finale that I absolutely didn’t see coming. It was, dare I say, exciting to experience! There are also a lot of little details from the other books that come into play during Ethan’s gloomy adventure which I didn’t expect to see again. I loved how these seemingly minor things ended up playing huge parts in the plot. It captivated my interest all the more.
Others elements I enjoyed: There is an introduction of a few new characters that leave you feeling haunted as you empathize with their plight. Garcia and Stohl do a lovely job of describing these characters’ emotional and physical pain in such a way that you just can’t help but relate to it. These people are also very different than the crazy Gatlin cast and personas that you become accustomed to; it was a refreshing change!
There is a decent amount of character growth, at least for Ethan Wate. He has been going through one hell of a roller coaster ride ever since he meets Lena, and while there is a substantial amount of personal growth between book one and three, it’s nothing quite like this. His character comes full circle with his realizations of what it truly means to love someone, or to lose something that is so damn important to you. While he’s seen that good and evil aren’t inherently black and white, I think he finally comprehends just what it means to be gray; how difficult it is to stay simply in the black or the white.
My only qualm with this novel is Lena’s perspective. The entire series is told from Ethan’s point-of-view. So when I noticed that we would get a glimpse into the mind of Lena, I was eager to read on. But I’m sorry to say that it was a disappointment and probably the only portion of the book that could have been written much better. I feel like there is very little in the way that she thinks or speaks that could differentiate her from Ethan. If there wasn’t a page that boldly stated “Lena,” I don’t believe the reader would actually be able to tell if was Lena or not. This was a colossal letdown and one of the major reasons for my lowering the rating for this novel.
Overall, I would have to say that Beautiful Redemption was a delightful way to finish off the series. I enjoyed the book, especially the scenery and the new folks we meet. To be perfectly honest, if Beautiful Chaos was written as half as good as the other novels in the series, I think the series would have been pretty damn fantastic across the board. My rating for this book: four outta five crows. My rating for the series: three outta five pies
