I cannot get enough of Ryan's step into the psyche of psychotic people. Her ability to make even the worst people, like Jameson (and even Lorelei) seem human, broken, and even likable is just beyond reproach.
Sure, I was yelling at my Kindle that Avery and Evan were falling too hard too fast... yet at the same time, if they didn't get over themselves and just say it I was going to take Avery down in the MMA ring myself.
I know there's a third one coming, and *tap, tap, tap* that's me, drumming my fingers on my computer, waiting for it to show up so I can one-click it.
Once again, Gen Ryan does not disappoint. Her second book in the Thin Red Lines series is beautiful! I might even like Avery a tad bit more that Maddie. I think because Maddie is just so damn sweet. But Avery is fiery. She's got a temper that flares at the drop of a hat, and I can totally appreciate that. And Evan. Yes to Evan. So much yes to the man who in this HEA. Great job, Ms. Ryan, on another win!
This is the second book in the series and while it can be read as a stand-alone it is best to read Beautiful Masterpiece first to get a better understanding of character development.
Avery Grant has been trying to meet her father's expectations for years. Her father, Ethan Grant, is the Deputy Director of the FBI and Avery has just graduated top of her class to become an agent herself. When Avery and her best friend, Madison Harper, are asked to head up a case her father lets her know that she better not disappoint him.
Evan Bradley is a local police officer who will be teaming up with the FBI to figure out the latest murder case they are working on. Evidence points them towards Jameson Cruz who was spotted talking with a victim.
As Evan and Avery begin to work together they also begin to get closer themselves and decide to give a relationship a try. But in the midst the case takes a drastic turn and gets extremely personal. Will their relationship survive the case and will Avery be able to withstand the pressure from her dad?
This is another great book by the author that has you gripped from the moment it starts to the moment it ends.
I really liked Avery but felt terrible for her in that she was never going to get through to her dad and reach the level that he wanted her at no matter what she did. He was so cold to her and his career meant everything to him and that was evident on how she grew up. Yet she still tried and I knew that would end up causing some issues - which it did. Her friendship with Madison was awesome and I loved how they each truly helped the other and they complemented each other in their differences and brought out the best in each other.
Evan Bradley was so full of Southern Charm that I loved reading his words and they definitely made me swoon. Evan works so hard in order to provide for his sister, Mia, and he truly has given up everything in order to keep her in school. He lives in a tiny run down place in order to pay his bills and has lost a lot because of it. I was excited that he gave his heart to Avery as he was finally doing something for himself.
The two together were super hot and I loved their chemistry. They had so much fun together and challenged each other. Yet they also had a level of trust that allowed each of them to open up to the other and let out their vulnerabilities.
Jameson and Lorelei Cruz were definitely interesting and again had their own difficult backgrounds that led them down their own path. It's interesting how everyone had a similar path to a certain extent yet they all chose different ways of turning out and getting through it all. There was a clear evil presence and it was a unique one which I liked. Although I hated what happened it was a new story line which was refreshing.
The end was great with the house and I look forward to the next story in the series! - By Rebecca
