Editorial Reviews

* Nominated for Best Paranormal Romance - Wizard and Witch (2011) by The Romance Reviews*

★★★★★"...a fun, intense, super sexy read, that lovers of Paranormal Romance will devour! Trent was my kind of bad-boy. And, can you say sexy? Shiloh and Trent's relationship was steamy to the max. Major swoon. It definitely makes me want to read the next installment." -YA Bound Reviews

★★★★★ "Eerie, humorous, and romantic, Beautifully Broken is a potent story about young witch Shiloh and the curse that threatens her town. Highly entertaining, I would definitely recommend this to any fan of YA paranormal romance!" -Omnom Books Blog

★★★★★"...Soule did an amazing job of weaving teenage angst and raging hormones with the paranormal aspects of witches, demons, and otherworldly creatures. Shiloh's beautiful but flawed character is the perfect heroine for this suspenseful paranormal romance. While I was reading it, images of TV shows like Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries come to mind as the characters battle the mean girls from the halls of the local high school, the gossiping town folk, and even fighting their paranormal enemies." -Once Upon a Twilight Book Reviews

★★★★★"...The plot was truly brilliant. There were twists here and there and I loved it all the way, I never knew what would happen next. It was full of mystery and enough suspense to keep me hanging off every page. I also loved the creepy atmosphere in the book, it was intense. Overall, Beautifully Broken struck me as a great start to an amazing series and I can't wait to read the second one. I recommend this to anyone who loves a good horror thriller." - YA Book Seasons

*Beware of Spoilers*

Another home run for Sherry Soule. I first read the version of Beautifully Broken released in 2011. I loved it, to say the least. I contacted Sherry about the series and she explained she had enhanced the book. The new version was released in August. I am relieved it is finally here. I have been jonesing to read Beautifully Broken with more detail. I was not at all disappointed.

Shiloh is a layered character. She is 15 with a scar that people call the devil's mark. Shiloh is snarky, a smart-ass, witty and over-all pretty self-aware. She is solitary because of her gift but also because she is consistently misjudged. She is labeled "weird" at school. Since a near death experience, Shiloh can see as well as speak to shadows, shades, wraiths, auras etc...She is a powerful witch but not in touch with that part of herself just yet. I think it scares her to death. She is young, making it difficult to face these very adult issues.

It sucks that Shiloh has lost touch with some of her mother's relatives including her Aunt Lauren and grandparents. She could really use their support at this time in her life. It is especially important because Shiloh has a bizarre relationship with her mother. She believes she is unlovable because of how her mother treats her. My heart broke for her in this regard. If you are ignored enough, you think it is your fault. It negatively effects her self-image. I wanted to hug her and tell her it would be okay.

I enjoyed Soule bringing Shiloh's Native American ancestry into the story. She gets many talents from both sides of her ancestry.

Shiloh has developed a telepathic shield to protect herself from the beings she sees. They want to feed off her emotions.

Wow!! What an amazing book. This is the first book in the Spellbound series and I cannot wait for more. Sherry Soule wrote a young adult book that grabbed me, a not so young adult, from the very beginning. I loved Shiloh. A true teenager, with self doubt and worries about not fitting in, and how she wanted to be like by her peers and respected by her parents. I did feel sorry for her due to her lack of good adult role models. Her parents were quite losers, a mother who ignored her and a father who only saw what he wanted to. Then she met Trent…oh Trent. As a teenager he is what every girl wants. Hot, bad boy, and unattached. I loved watching the two of them dance around each other while trying to figure out what the other was thinking or feeling. The memories came flooding back of my high school relationships.

The mystery and history of Fallen Oaks kept me having to read more. I needed to know if any other teenagers would go missing, would Trent and Shiloh fall in love and live happily ever after? The demons and witches are exactly what I enjoy reading about and this book was perfect. The plot twists and turns are what kept me going late into the night reading. With each twist and turn I was pulled in deeper and deeper.

I have to recommend this book to young adult readers and older reader alike. Book two cannot come soon enough.

Shiloh Trudell is not your ordinary teenager. She can see spirits and demons, as well as sense the occult. Though she's not sure as to how she came by her extraordinary powers, she knows there's a reason for them. Granted, she's not exactly sure what she should do with them. There's got to be someone around who can help her with what she needs to know and do. The question is, who?

Determined to understand what makes her who and what she is, Shiloh tries to turn to the one person who can possibly answer her questions - her mother. Sadly, she's not that forthcoming. That's ok, though. Deep inside, she knows there are other ways to find out what she's looking for. She'll just need to work a little harder in getting to where she needs to be.

As the secrets of her past start to surface, Shiloh soon realizes that there's a lot she doesn't know. A good many have been keeping secrets from her, her parents included. Refusing to settle for how things currently are, she dives head-first into the heart of the matter. The town's sordid past has come up to haunt everyone, something her elders want no part of. While she doesn't quite know as to what the town's founders are hiding, she knows their secrets are doing more harm than good. If she's to succeed in setting all wrongs to right, she'll need to uncover secrets no one wants her or the rest of the town to know about. To do so, she'll need to stay alive long enough to shed light on the missing kids and the town's sordid past.

Beautifully Broken is definitely one of those books that will make you question what you know about the supernatural. Sherry has built as world where the secrets of one's past can come back to hurt you. Sometimes, things are better left untouched, even when curiosity tends to get the best of you.

Beautifully Broken is the first book of the Spellbound series. Shiloh Trudell is a sixteen-year-old girl who has had a close relationship with the paranormal for most of her life, and not by choice. Fallen Oaks is under a dark cloud and Shiloh knows she must work to find answers. She also needs to find out how Trent Donovan, the hot new guy, fits into the mystery.

Soule has gotten off to a great start with this YA paranormal. Not only is there a budding romance for the readers to enjoy there is also a good mystery brewing! Don’t forget to add the paranormal element! Witches, wraiths, and a town curse give the spooky dimension to the story the readers crave! I believe young adults will flock to this series. I think there are aspects to Shiloh that young ladies will find relatable, and of course they will swoon over Trent. It is just a well written story that is perfect for its target readers.

Fans that try out Beautifully Broken and can’t wait for more will be happy to know that books two through four are already on the market! So keep your eyes peeled for the second book Shattered Silence!
