When Serena DuPont begins her new life at Beaumont, all she wants is a chance to leave the past behind her and focus on her one true passion. Art. But between falling onto the campus player’s radar and her father’s insistence that she participate in campus activities, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen.
Cole is just the right combination of Alpha male/ Bad Boy/ Sweetheart in my book. And of course when he meets the fiery and intelligent Serena, he sets his sights on her almost immediately. As someone who’s not used to hearing the word no, Cole is up to the challenge. But it becomes about so much more than that as their friendship progresses and he breaks through the walls that Serena has built.
There is plenty of angst to go around when it feels like the odds are stacked against these two. If it isn’t Serena’s dreams or their rival Greek houses, it’s the dangerous blackmailer and nasty rumors that abound.
At the end, we see Serena flourishing in spite of everything that’s happened to her. We get a sweet happy for now, and the promise of more to come in the books that follow.
Overall, an excellent read. I couldn’t stop laughing at some of the things that flew from Serena’s mouth with her ‘little problem’. And major brownie points for Cole being an animal activist. Sigh. Okay… I must stop swooning now!
Sherry Soule takes a different path away from her usual paranormal fare into Adult Romantic Fiction with her new book “Smash Into You” and it’s a wonderful detour. Don’t get me wrong, I love her other works, yet this one has all the appeal of college with enough drama and mystery – and romance – to keep me hooked from page one.
Serena DuPont has had some problems in the past, mainly a breakup that left her devastated and emotionally wrecked, enough so that it affect everything about her life. Since her father is a Senator, a public display of sorrow was a no go. Packing up, she moved away from her SoCal home and found herself in Beaumont University in her sophomore year. Determined to restart her life she commits to pledging to the Zeta Beta Sorority while trying to ignore Cole Prescott, a man too handsome for her own good. In between classes and rumors she navigates the hazing process, fights ridicule and her attraction to Cole, then falls into a mystery that threatens to destroy the fragile life she is building and even borders on dangerous.
Rich with college experience, this is a novel that will take anyone back to those party and book filled years, even for those that have never been in a Sisterhood. Well written and fast paced this is another winner for Soule’s already impressive collection.
I received a free advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
