About the Author
Hi, I'm Alyce-Kay (Hanush) Ruckelshaus, founder of Threshold of Hineni. I’m passionately addicted to God, despite some pretty bad experiences in church. I’m a girl who is cherished by God, even though I tried to scare Him away. I’m ardent about helping you trust Him and discover that He wants to lavish you with His affection. If you have had experiences that should turn you off from God, but you still feel drawn toward Him … we need to talk. I met my husband, Bill, online in 2014 and we got married later that year. I'm a hot mess, but he's totally crazy about me ... and that gives me a ton of hope and joy. We currently live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland with two dogs and a cat. My greatest passion in life is to see people unleashed to be who God calls them to be. That's what's behind my teaching, my writing, etc. It's why my heart drags me to broken people. Those of us who have been wounded and broken are the ones God mends and heals. He whispers His greatest dreams into our hearts. It's the brokenness that makes us more pliable, once the brittleness is gone. And it's the emptiness that enables us to be filled. About Threshold of Hineni: Hineni is a Hebrew word that means Here I am. I think of it in the sense of This is me, just as I am, with all my quirks and gifts and failures. I love that God accepts me that way. It also means, Here I am, send me, use me, in the sense of Abraham, Moses, and Isaiah being willing to go wherever God wants them to go and do whatever He wants them to do. It's been my lifetime prayer, as well. A threshold is what you cross when you go through a doorway. It means that you're entering or exiting ... perhaps coming home after a long day ... or heading out into a fresh adventure. It smells of home fires and comfort and healing. It also affirms a new beginning. My dream and my prayer is to be instrumental in helping people come to the Threshold of Hineni. The prayer I pray as I work is always that my readers and the recipients of my artwork would grow closer to God and know Him well enough to follow Him wherever He takes them, to be able to stand on the threshold, whether going out or coming in, and say, "Hineni." And just in case you were wondering ... My Isaiah Cadre series is my first set of novels. They say you should write what you know, so the settings are various places I've lived. I got my bachelors in Religious Studies (emphasis in theology and Greek) from Westmont College in 1983.

Beauty For Ashes: Isaiah Cadre, Book 1 (Isaiah Cadre Series) is the first of a series by my friend, Alyce-Kay Ruckelshaus. It chronicles the story of Kelly, a student at Westmont College in Santa Barbara in 1981. She is an MK (missionary kid) and in love with Matt, a PK (preacher’s kid). She is also part of the Isaiah Cadre, a group of dorm mates who have committed themselves to God and one another.
The book starts off a little slowly but sets the stage well for an idyllic college experience, deep friendships, and young romance. It gives context that will be important later. And then the unthinkable happens and in a moment, Kelly’s world is shattered. Her faith is tested. Her love is tested. Even her friendships are tested.
The book offers a realistic portrayal of the way many people handle sudden trauma. It especially demonstrates how trauma affects a normally logical person, and how shame can distort one’s thinking.
I highly recommend this book. I loved it even though it’s not my demographic. It’s well written, fast moving, and thoughtful. The author offers discussion questions for personal use or better yet, for a book group. Or even for a cadre. And best of all, it’s free on Kindle!
P.S. Just finished the book, at first glance seemed like simple light reading, however, on reading further, while it is easy to read, it is not light. It is powerful and heart wrenching at times, heart warming at others. The whole thing carries multiple powerful messages.
1 Put God first. 2 TRUST HIM. 3 Pro-life, when He gives you a gift, such as a child, don't throw it away.
You will be crying your eyes out, and shocked when you reach the end, pining away for the next book, (hint, hint.)
P.P.S. recommend pre-reading for teens.
