Lucas Oliver has a plan. He is going to get revenge on the man who ruined his life 15 years ago. He has to use Sydney, the beautiful daughter of his enemy, to get his revenge. Sydney has always been controlled, from put-downs about her weight or wild hair, to marrying a man she doesn't love to help save her fathers business, she is used to sacrificing herself for those she loves. What should have been a simple bachelor auction where she was going to bid on her fiance, ends up with the wrong man and being blackmailed into a marriage she doesn't want.

I LOVED this story! Revenge themed romances are a weak spot for me and this is one of the best I have read. Lucas has his reasons for seeking revenge and after reading his story, I understand why he was willing to do whatever he had to do to get revenge. Sydney was a wonderful heroine. She's kind and sweet but also grows throughout this story into a strong, self-assured woman. The chemistry and sexual tension between these two characters was amazing - it sucked me in from the very beginning and built throughout the whole book. This is the first book I have read by this author but I can't wait to read more! Fantastic!!!!

I liked Lucas and Sydney, and I thought their growth was believable, if a little fast. It probably would have been more credible if more time had been taken to show how they were changing each other for the better, outside of the bedroom. The writing was fine, and the story itself was intriguing and overall it was strong. I would've liked to see more of Sydney at the youth center though. And what happened to Lucas's uncle?

I will say that Jason Blake's realization of his mistakes and whatnot seemed forced and it annoyed me more than it spoke to me. First, one instance of warning a man that his daughter had suffered enough does not love make, and everyone seemed to think that tiny moments were enough to prove his affection. The man essentially ignored his daughter for fifteen years, forced her into things, etc.--I frankly didn't believe him at the end. Especially because his supposed one saving grace, that he had raised such a fine woman, was an outright lie--I guarantee he had practically nothing to do with her after she was 10. So no, he was still a horrible person, and I find it hard to believe that he could live with lying to his family about extramarital affairs but it was the fraud that got to him. Please.

So, it wasn't a bad read, but I think it fell into the trap of making a character too unlikeable, but then trying to redeem them at the end.

But, I'm going in. First of all I just have to say that technically this is a well-written books. Great editing. I have to give stars for that. That being took way, way to long to come to like these characters. She was a doormat to her family. Really, if my dad was committing a crime, that's on him. I'm just not the sacrifice myself type for anyone. That may make me shallow sounding to some, but I have always lived under one rule.....ME FIRST. My family ever wanted to do stupid things that get them sent to prison, I'm not jumping under any buses. I may offer tips how to make orange look good, but that would be the extent. In this book add to the fact they treated her like s?!t nearly her whole life and had practically forced her to sell herself to marry a man she didn't love and didn't love her, just to try to fix her father's problems....he!! No. But, of course, we are given a doormat heroine who acts like the stupidest, most spineless, coldest bitch you can think of.....and we are just supposed to love her and root for her. I don't do self sacrificing characters. Absolutely, positively those books drive me to want to COMMIT a crime against my poor kindle. I don't see it as strong, selfless, loving, loyal or whatever else others do. That character flaw in people just screams STUPID, SPINELESS, USE-ME-AND-ABUSE DOORMAT. By the time she's ready to redeem herself....bam....I didn't care.

3.75 stars-- BEAUTY AND THE BACHELOR is an adult, contemporary, romantic retelling of the fairytale Beauty and the Beast. This is billionaire Lucas Oliver, and socialite Sydney Blake’s storyline.

Told from dual third person perspectives BEAUTY AND THE BACHELOR focuses on betrayal, revenge and blackmail. Lucas Oliver is determined to destroy Sydney’s father starting with blackmailing Sydney into marriage. What ensues is a building relationship that begins with a bachelor auction, a series of lies and lies by omission-ones that finds our heroine understanding that she has become a pawn in a financial war between billion dollar enterprises.

The relationship between Sydney and Lucas begins acrimoniously as Sydney feels she has no other recourse then to marry Lucas Blake to protect her father from financial ruin. As the storyline builds so too does Lucas and Sydney’s relationship blossoming from spite to friendship to love but all does not go according to plan when Sydney’s believes that Blake has broken his promise. The $ex scenes are intimate, romantic and seductive.

The secondary and supporting characters include Blake’s best friend Aiden who believes that Blake’s need for revenge will not end as expected. We are also introduced to Sydney’s ex fiancé Tyler Reinhold, and her parents Charlene and Jason Blake. Sydney’s mother is all about appearances and with that comes a judgmental attitude and air of superiority.

The world building reveals two family histories connected by lies, deceit and betrayal. The lifestyle of the uber-rich and famous is wrapped in the clichéd beliefs of dominance and power; and sticking it anyone who gets in the way.
