I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Though I loved it so much I bought my own copy.
Final Rating: 5 Stars
(I did find some chapter titles too much as they were just to give homage to a previous version of the story and not tied in to the story written here.)
I loved the characters. Isabelle was a pretty young women who was a tinkerer. She created such beautiful pieces. They were described so that you could visualize them so realistically. When tragedy strikes and she ends up on a deserted island she soon learns it is not deserted. The inhabitants are not human but yet they seem so real. Soon Isabelle thinks there is more to their story and sets out to find the truth.
This was a great read that combined a fairytale, steam punk, a touch of paranormal and a great story line. Once I started I could not put it down. I will be looking into more stories by this author.
This is a fanciful and well written retelling of the fairy tale. I look forward to more retellings by Melanie
I highly recommend picking up this book and her Alice in Wonderland remake "Curiouser and Curiouser!"
There are some editing blips, something I can't help but notice. But none of it was enough to detract from my reading enjoyment. Overall, this is a great book. Recommended for the sheer fun of it.
I could see the references to the Disney version she admits to referencing, but she has skillfully and artfully tinkered and massaged it into another "Tale as old as Time", Beauty and the Beastly. Looking forward to looking up her other stories.
