A soldier asked Abba Mius if God accepted repentance.

After the old man had taught him many things, he said to the soldier, "Tell me, my dear, if your cloak is torn do you throw it away?"

The soldier replied, "No. I mend it and use it again."

The old man said to him, "If you are so careful about your cloak, will not God be equally careful about his creature?"

Sometimes it requires a story based in physical reality to effectively convey a spiritual truth.

This is a helpful day-by-day type compendium of the desert mothers and fathers. My one bone to pick with it is that the source isn't given daily.

This is a great morning reflection book because it gives the spirit and mind something to "chew on" throughout the day. The reflections are not the type that easily jump to the point. They take some time. Sometimes I find myself driving to work or eating my lunch and saying, "OK, I get it," to something I read in the morning. Sometimes I have to go back to it in the evening and reflect on the day's activities to work through it all.

It's worth the effort each time.
