I enjoyed the MaleDom POV, a nice change of pace.
I liked the careful vetting of both player and process, as described in the tale.
Edge-play?: That's a tough one for me. It does not enhance my reading experience at all, and yet I can totally appreciate both the cautious and the sensitive manner with which it was dealt in this book.
Sawyer was a bit of an enigma for me: that he was an honest caring man was not in doubt. That he accepted who he was, both personally and professionally was evident, and made him utterly likable. That he loved his friends and his subs?...yes, that was there too. But did he ever figure out how to be IN love? I'm not certain I got that from him, and I'm not certain if I was supposed to get it from him. He seemed more bent on a martyrdom of sorts, in as much as it came to his choices, and that kind of left me hanging. Instead of feeling like a Happy-Ever-After it felt more like a Content-Ever-After from Sawyer's perspective, despite the brief epilogue.
Still in all, I liked the story and most of the characters (Sonya? Really? An intervention? But that aspect was also well handled.) I think it was well written and was sympathetic to the Dom/sub dynamic. I personally didn't get a "true-love" story from it, but I did get a loving story.
Having said that, I felt a little let down by this book. Not because of the writing, it is superb, as always. I love Ella's ability to develop and portray characters, their thoughts, feelings, interaction and dialogue with others. I liked how Ella took Sawyer on his journey to becoming what he felt was a true, informed, engaged Dominant.
I was also thrilled with Sarah, atypical in her physical presentation, but secure in herself and depicted as attractive and alluring and beautiful in the eyes of others. It is not often that one reads about a typical sized woman having a main character role and that was greatly appreciated. Sarah is a very relatable character to many.
What really bothered me with Sawyer's relationship with Ciara. Most of it was depicted beautifully and sensually. However, Sawyer's last "test" with Ciara was difficult for me to read. I was angry at him for consenting to it and angry at Ciara for agreeing to it, given the circumstances and the fact that it was a hard limit. As a clinician, sometimes it is hard for me to suspend belief, and this was one of those times.
Admittedly, I am not immersed in the BDSM world, but from my extensive reading, a hard limit is a hard limit and being submissive does not preclude saying no to being put into real physical jeopardy. I felt there was a great deal of irresponsibility on the part of both Kieran and Sawyer in proceeding with this "final exam". And I hated how Ciara's hard limit was disregarded.
I was happy with the ending, and how it turned out for all involved, especially Dylan and Isa.
Sawyer is the sexy alpha, dominant, reliable, trusting, loyal, man that everyone wants. He is also tortured by his past and the things he has had to do for his job and to keep those around him safe. Always ok to be in the shadows in the past, now is his time.
Sawyer realizes that what his friends Dylan and Isabel have in the bedroom and out, is something he thinks he wants as well. When Sawyer finds that other women want this as well, and he finds a world that he feels some comfort in. He's tired of pretending to be someone he's not so he gives it his best.
He begins his training and meets several people but one that stands out. His past is hard to forget and even harder to leave behind and we get to share in the journey.
This is a wonderfully written, detailed account of Sawyers training and is explicit and HOT. Ella Dominguez has done a great job and I can't wait to read more from her!
Yes ladies carry an extra pair of panties for this one..lol
Christian Gray who? Gideaon Cross what? lol, yes it is like that.
Dont get me wrong I love all these men but Sawyer holds a special place on my book boyfriend list now:) Just reading the scenes in this book had me squirming, yes that good..lol
I mean where do I even start with this book? I paused on my reading of Entwined with You to read this. After reading the reviews I knew this was one I couldnt wait for:) I have to say that even with the reviews there was no way possible to prepare myself for Sawyer and his story of becoming a Dom. I loved how this book takes you through his entire story of how he became one and what he had to go through. Sawyer was so hot even before he decided to take this road in his life, he just has this Alpha male kick ass thing going on and you cant help but want to do exactly what he says! To me Susan aka Snowflake was the perfect teacher for him. They have both loved entirely and hurt from the loss of that love in two tragic ways. She knows his past and his fears and how to push him without hurting him. They reveal things to each other that have never been spoken of before and build a bond that cant be broken. I hated that he, even for a second, would've considered someone else for himself and not her. I wanted to like Ciara, really I did, but I was all for Sarah so there was no way for me to agree to him being with her. Sorry that just wasnt happening:) To me she needed to be with Kerian and Julia, that was her family.
I havent read the other books books that came before this one and I was still able to enjoy this story and these characters, such as Isa and Dylan, that I have never heard of. I will admit that I loved them though and now I will be reading the others just to hear their story!
