A few (of the many) examples:
Page 88: "Painting is to love again...to love yourself." For me it is writing, but I get tingles just the same.
Page 101: "Why do I feel like an outsider in every situation?" I feel your pain!
Page 108: "My mom was needy and self-centered. She was constantly worried about what other people would think...all my life I put myself and my best interests aside and did what was best for other people." People pleaser, that's has been me, too.
Page 168: "Living small is making you large...keeps me focused on my (alleged) faults. I can't see the greatness of my spirit." Such a simple concept, yet so very powerful. I feel it meaning deep in my soul.
Page 218-19: "For so long I had been trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. I had tried so many things and had abandoned so many paths." For me, it's been 10 moves, two dozen jobs and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. Thank God for 40 years of love and understanding from an incredible spouse who walked this crazy journey with me with joy and dignity, including beating terminal cancer! But perhaps it's not the destination I should be concerned about, but, as Zia writes; "Just be in this moment." Enjoy the journey, love yourself because you are whole and beautiful, just as you are.
I could go on on on, but I will be satisfied to revisit the pages of Zia's amazing book privately and look forward to further discovery through her workbook. I just ordered it from Amazon.
Finally, I want to ask for Zia's grace and forgiveness for my many hurtful and childish actions toward her while we were growing up and for not kicking Jack in the balls for his abuse of this wonderful, talented and compassionate woman.
With love, grace and thanks!
I really enjoyed this book. What a transformation Zia went through in a short period of time while in New Mexico. I've known Zia(Cindy) her whole life and even I learned things I didn't know prior to reading "Becoming Zia". She was very brave to open up about her life and leave herself so vulnerable. I am very proud of Zia...this will be an inspirational story for many readers. I highly recommend this book as well as her interactive workbook "Becoming You". I was really affected by this book.
