The story will keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn't put this story down. This is a great story. Autumn Sand did a great job on this book. The story is well written. Anaya Scott has had the position as a junior interior designer for 6 months at C.F. Interior Designs, and plans to become a full-fledged designer within the next 2 years. She lives in a penthouse apartment with her boyfriend of 12 years, Iggy, but they haven't had any sort of sexual relationship in many months. She knows that Iggy is sleeping with other women because he is never in their bed when she goes to bed or when she wakes up in the morning, and when he does come home, he smells of other women's perfume and cigarettes that he doesn't smoke. Anaya's best friend is Iggy's lawyer, Rheda, and they frequently have lunch together, and socialize after work. Rheda is Anaya's best girlfriend, and she knows all about how badly Iggy is treating Anaya. One day Anaya finds out from her boss, Chelsea, that she has been asked to design the new interior of “Pulse” by it's owner, Tony Delaney. This is a big deal for Anaya, since she has never handled an account this big, and Tony is a friend of her boss.
Tony Delaney is the owner of “Pulse” nightclubs, which he owns in NYC, LA, Miami, and Las Vegas. He is also the illegitimate son of a Mafia crime boss. His mother committed suicide when he was a teenager, after his half-sister was raped and went to live with her father. Tony has felt that his reason for living since that day has been so that he could kill his sister's rapist. Tony's best friend and righthand man is Tick, who he has been friends with since he moved in with his aunt after his mother's suicide. Tick helps Tony with the day to day operations of “Pulse”, and anything else that Tony needs.
The day that Anaya comes into his club to meet him to discuss his ideas for the club's new interior design, Tony is instantly attracted to her. He goes behind the bar and fixes two drinks, offering one to Anaya. She tastes it and thinks he could be her dream man because it is her favorite drink, Jack and Coke. “I take it you like Jack?”, he asks, smirking at her, again. “Yes, actually I do. It's my drink of choice. My best friend constantly teases me about it.” She doesn't know why she feels comfortable enough to share that with him.
The author, Autumn Sand, warns her readers that this book contains a storyline that touches on rape and violence against women, before the novel begins in a disclaimer. The purpose of this book is to show that there is life after these acts, and I believe that she has done a very good job in doing that with this book. The story shows that you can fight back and feel something again, even after you suffer from something as horrible as rape and/or emotional, verbal, and physical abuse. I really enjoyed this book, and I recommend it to others because it is a story of finding love again, and I'm a hopeless romantic. I really look forward to reading the other books in this series.
