Jascha Horenstein (1898 - 1973) - a well known and respected conductor but somewhat in the shade of the likes of Bruno Walter or Otto Klemperer during his lifetime, is having his legacy undergone a remarkable renaissance over the past few decades among record collectors and musicologists. Many of his live recordings are now being discovered, pulled from radio archives and released on CD. He is now considered one the very top ranking conductors of the 20th century. This is the first release of Horenstein conducting Beethoven's 9th Symphony on October 31, 1963.

The video is the same of the recording of the symphony that it's included in the box set of music and arts "broadcast perfomances from Paris" and the recording is for some people the best beethoven's 9 ever recording.
I particularly think that the recording for Vox is much better but both are amazing interpretations.
The quality of video is not the better, it's in blank and white and not precisely in HD.
But for us, the Jascha Horenstein's fans is a unique opportunity to see the master and to learn why he was one the best conductor of all the times.
I'm very happy with this DVD and hope that every person with interest in beethoven and in classical music in general can watch this DVD.
