Artists -- would you consider giving up EVERYTHING you contributed in life to your field for the chance to go back and live your life over again?

This is the question Mephistopheles (the Devil) poses to the one and only Ludwig Van Beethoven on the final night of his life in this TOP-NOTCH, fantastic rock opera. This is a slight deviation for the more casual Trans-Siberian Orchestra fans who will be more familiar with their rock/metal Christmas instrumentals. The rock/metal is there--crowned with a blow-your-socks-off version of Beethoven's Fifth, but this is performed in a linear sequence complete with full lyrics and between-song narration/dramatizations in a style reminiscent of a broadway-style musical.

All the music is really good and everything you come to expect from a powerhouse like TSO. That aside, however, the philosophical implications, symbolism and themes are very well-done and you'll quickly find yourself enraptured in the story as it unfolds.

"Beethoven" is my favorite Trans Siberian recording. This version with the narration adds an even greater dimension. Listening to it takes me back to the times I have seen this work in concert. It adds a little extra kick to the enjoyment.

Highly recommended! It was nice having the narrations on this one to know the story that's being told in the music. A great benefit for when you don't have the booklet (included in the package) to read as you try to keep up with the story.

Is a great album, in this version with the narrated parts brings a very special approach to the songs highly recomended. I also have the one without narration. For me this new version brings something a lot better

If you've never been to one of the live TSO performances you may not appreciate the amazing talent of this group. It's a mix of classical, heavy metal and spiritual messages that is original and purely genius. Their performances all tell a story with narration and music. This is the fully narrated version.

I love TSO and Beethoven's Last Night is an exemplary work. That said, the narrated version of Beethoven's Last Night is interesting to listen to a few times. The novelty wore of fairly quickly for me, however, and I've gone back to listening almost exclusively to the version without narration. Knowing what I know now, I would probably have chosen not to purchase this.

I saw an interview by Paul O'Neil that they were finally able to get the narrated version of Beethovan's Last Night through the record company, which is the way all their Rock Operas should be. I now have both versions of BLN. If you're new to TSO be advised there is an emotional ride with their music if you read the story, or FINALLY get a narrated copy. If you just want the heavy metal, classical, R&B, Rock & Roll music experience, the original works. But the narrated version is without a doubt now my favorate. I wish TSO would/could narrate the rest. Maybe Night Castle will be next, or their next album.

The expanded versions with the narrative make it all the more enjoyable. Saw CHRISTMAS ATTIC this past year and have both copies MUSIC ONLY and the one with the NARRATIVE. Prefer the version with the narrative.
