Book is very good. Easy to read and understand. Slighly less than Wiersbe's book on the same subject. Good addition to a pastor's library. Well worth it.

This book begins with the usual comments on the Bread of Life, Light of the World, Door and Good Shepherd. Jesus will nourish, sustain and protect all those who believe in Him. He came so that His followers might have life and have it more abundantly. There is a great deal of talk about the security God offers (and guarantees) through Jesus. Moreover, all those who are filled with His spirit are transformed. There is a list of benefits of being in Jesus' flock (p. 40)--free from fear, friction with others, flies & parasites, and hunger. The author says (p. 43):
" Our loving Heavenly Father never gives with a closed fist; He always gives His best just as He gave His One and Only Son. Life should be overflowing, infectious to others and triumphant. When Jesus gives life, it is destined to last, fully abundant here on earth and one day when we spend eternity with Him."

Yet, we all know that there are Christians who go hungry, live in poverty and are persecuted. Both Christians and non-Christians know that some people who profess to be Christian do not always live according to "Christian principles."

So, the tone has to quickly change to "spiritual" nourishment, protection and joie de vive. The point is made that the people followed Jesus after the feeding of the 5000 because He _physically_ fed them but He really wanted to give them _spiritual_ bread. Marrow gives an example of the reactions of various spiritual leaders to a person in a dark pit with a poisonous snake. Only Jesus actually takes the poison for the person and then saves him. Later, we figure out that He took the spiritual poison and saved the person in spirit--but that's no help for a physical person in physical peril, is it?
