I have never before heard a Blues harmonica solo as the chorus of a punk song, But Dead By July's "Rock Radio" did just that and trashes the mainstream pop they play on top 40 stations at the very same time. The new 6-song EP from Bockhorn records is a wicked example for the group from Cleveland, OH. Dead By July stays traditional in their rhythmic structure, but incorporates new aspects and vocals of rock n' roll while paying homage to the 3-chord punk of the past. The band features Dave Long on rhythm guitar and vocals, Patrick Corrigan on lead guitar Dan Gray on Bass and vocals, and Kevin Kobra on drums. Recorded over 2 days by Don Depew at 609 Studios in Cleveland, and mastered by Doug Van Slown at Studio B in Omaha, NE. Catch them soon on tour supporting the EP.

At last! a punk band is actually remaining ture to the genre. No poppy-jump-up-and-down-cry-me-a-river lyrics here. Dead By July focuses on political and social issues that affect all of our daily lives. It's hard, it's catchy, it's just good punk rock. I especially like Rock Radio and Church Key. I haven't really heard of this band before, but I'm definitely a fan now.

It's great to hear real punk without all the commercial glam, compressed, over-produced nonsense that's being pumped out these days. Dead by July is a refreshing, nostalgic return to the roots of pure rock. 17 minutes and 38 seconds? With no foreplay anyone should be able to get it done!!

These guys work hard, and they certainly let you know. I can only say that their live performance is so much better, so let this be a preview. I can honestly say I don't think I've ever heard such a loud concert.
