Another excellent novel by Judith Lennox. Her characters are excellent and flawed. Like her other novels, the different classes in Britain clash. Like her other novels, the characters lack any type of faith and don't have boundries in their lives. As the reader, the story pulls at your heart because of all the mistakes the characters make. This novel includes: jealousy, murder, love, romance, war, betrayal, friendship, mistakes, babies abandoned, divorce, and much much more. Other excellent historical fiction writers to check out after this book could be: Helen Forrester, Willian Jarvis, Sandra Dallas, Margaret Mayhew, Jane Donnelly, Jane Kirkpatrick, and Laurie Graham. This book deserves A+++++

Format: Paperback
In 1909, wealthy, middle aged businessman Richard Finborough is captivated by 20 year old Isabel Zeale whom he meets at a seaside town in Devon. He urges her to marry him despite her protests that there is something in her past of which he wouldn't approve. Isabel allows herself to be persuaded into marriage with his promises of love and security. Isabel and Richard happily and successfully raise two children and their life continues undisturbed through the turmoils of WW1 and then WW2, when their children face their own problems and begin their own separate lives. When a ghost from the past suddenly confronts Isabel, Richard is forced to examine his own feelings and his loyalty to Isabel is undermined by visions from the past. It's a good family saga type book and as such, will be enjoyed by readers of this genre.
