Before You Break is an exquisite masterpiece that showcases the transforming power of love and hope on the deadly effects of this life. The story that lies within the pages of this book is utterly boundless in its depth and power. Few realize the true impact of giving generously of your heart and soul to another, and fewer still actually offer their help to another. It’s not easy to give of yourself in order to help another rise from the ashes of their life, but it is immensely worth the reward of watching them change into the person that you have always seen in the depths of their soul. To help save a life is one of the most treasured and fulfilling endeavors that you can ever undertake. Please do not allow fear and insecurity to stop you from touching the life of one who is waiting for your words of healing and compassion to keep them moving forward and to spur them to come to life.

Ella is a girl who has faced horrific tragedy and has pulled herself out by the sheer power of her will. She now wants to dedicate her life to helping others deal with similar horrors. Her heart drives her to give of herself, but is it also holding her back? She has gotten very comfortable with the life she has created, but is she really happy with it? It is really her life, or does it belong to another? Quinn has faced his own personal horrors, and he lives a shell of a life in order to honor another. He has lost himself, and in the process has watched his heart grow cold and wither. He doesn’t know who he is anymore, and he desperately needs a change of perspective. His jolt back to life comes in the form of Ella who brings out his desire to really live, his hope for true forgiveness, and his long repressed need to allow himself to love.

3 1/2 stars...and it pains me to rate it this. This is one of the books I was most looking forward to reading to this year. 'All of You' was on my list of favorites for 2013 so I suppose had very high expectations for this book too.

I had difficulty relating to the characters. I so wanted to love this book, and the story line is such a great one that I thought I would. But something didn't work for me. The writing was felt choppy and disconnected. It seemed to stay on a surface level and never dig deeper. Even when sweet moments were occurring, I didn't feel them. Perhaps it was because of the instant attraction or Quinn's constant inner dialogue of guilt. He was running in circles with it. It came off as whiny. I just wanted to tell him to shut up and get over it. Which is horrible because he was truly grieving over a serious situation. But I just never connected with him.

However I did enjoy and appreciate the hotline calls. I was riveted to them. They were intense, honest and heartbreaking. This is the writing I remember. I found myself turning the page seeking to find the next one.

4 “Tall boy” Kisses

Wow…Christina Lee totally got me again. Just shot straight through my heart with all these feelings, had me over the moon in love with these characters and completely blew me away with the story line. Before I get ahead of myself…Before You Break is the second book in the Between Breaths series. If you haven’t read All of You …I highly recommend it because…it’s an awesome book and your introduction to these characters…but each book can be read as a standalone and doesn’t have to be read in order.

Gabriella Abrams…Ella…sweet, beautiful, kind Ella. Just like with Avery, I found myself really attached to Ella, but for different reasons…she’s more quite and reserved than her best friend, but that in no way diminished my pull to her. She has this gentleness about her…even though she grew up surrounded by brothers and playing video games…it's a wonder she turned out as girly as she did! But Ella is also sad...and a little broken. She lost her younger brother Christopher to suicide…and she carries that loss with her daily. She has dealt with the guilt that she originally felt, but it’s a daily struggle and her pain is so tangible. She’s a Psychology major and incredibly smart and compassionate and using what she knows to help others by working at a suicide prevention hotline…in her own way trying to save others from having to suffer like her brother did. And without even trying…she saved Quinn.

“Why did you come up here, Ella?”
“Because,” I whispered. I reached out and traced my thumb along his full bottom lip. I had no idea what I was doing, just that I was desperate to touch him.
A quiet growl emerged from the back of his throat and all at once he backed me against the door. “Tell me why.”
“I…I don’t know.” Suddenly I was scared.

I didn't read all of you but before you break is really slow. I liked the characters but it just dragged. They don't really hook up until the last few pages than its over. Don't care about Rachel so doubt I would read next book.

Before You Break is the second book in the Between Breaths series. It is a new adult series from Christina Lee, and each book works as a standalone. I am on the blog tour for the 4th book in the series coming up, and I wanted to try out one of the earlier books to see if I could catch a glimpse of Nate or Jessie before their story in Promise me This. (P.S. I did catch a glimpse of Nate, but not Jessie) I have read a lot of new adult contemporary romances and it is no secret that it is currently my favorite genre of books. After a reading your 100th or so contemporary college romance sometimes they can blend together, but not Before You Break. This book spoke to me on different levels. It is a short novel, at around 250 pages but there is so much goodness packed into its’ pages. Christina Lee impressed me with the emotion she wove into her writing and the connection she forged between the main characters, Quinn and Ella.

There are some dark issues and themes involved in Before You Break. A suicide hotline plays a big role in the story, and these are not issues to be taken lightly. I loved the way that the author dealt with them. It was so tasteful and heartfelt. Ella and Quinn both of demons in their past haunting them, and they each deal with them in very different ways. You can’t help but to root for them through it all though because there are no two people with bigger hearts. This is not a story of opposites attracting. Ella and Quinn are so similar and I loved seeing two sweet and caring people find their happiness. Watching Quinn with Ella and Gabby, on the suicide hotline broke my heart so many times. Not for any of the reasons you are probably thinking. I just hated how much guilt and blame he carried around, but I really commended him for continuing to call in.
