Megan Flynn's brother Sean has been convicted of a horrible murder. She knows he's innocent, but can't prove it. He's been sentenced to death and is done appealing his sentence. Megan can't accept that her brother is going to die for a crime he didn't commit, and is determined to save him.

Cole Williams is a cop - the cop who arrested Megan's brother for murder. He and Megan had been dating at the time, and after the arrest their relationship ended after it was made public. He's been called out to investigate a brutal rape and murder. He's surprised when he gets to the crime scene and Megan is there - she's the teenage witness' legal advocate.

After Megan notices a similarity in the current murder and the murder her brother was convicted of, she asks Cole for his help. He doesn't want to help, but once Megan starts uncovering clues, he's not only helping her find the truth, he's helping her stay alive.

My thoughts:
Megan is a likable heroine, even with her single-minded determination to free her brother. Cole is a by-the-book cop; noble and courageous, if lonely. Even though he believes Sean is guilty, he agrees to help Megan, if only to help her accept the truth. I liked Cole and his ability to admit to himself that this might be his second chance at happiness, however briefly. We don't really get an in-depth look at either the hero or heroines pasts though, only that Megan and Sean's parents died when they were young.

The killer was cold and calculating, and entirely insane. At first I wondered how Megan was connected, but as we are given glimpses of his history, we see his path to insanity and why he does what he does. I pegged who the killer was early on, but there were a few spots in the story where I second-guessed myself.

Megan Flynn knew Sean, her ex-Army Ranger brother did not kill that woman even though the State of Washington was ready to put him to death for it. She has never stopped looking for answers and going over every detail available and still she finds that will alter her opinion that he was framed.

Sean has given up but Megan moves on with her search and fate finds her face-to-face with the man she thought she loved Cole Williams. The problem with that man turned out to be a relationship breaker when Cole was the officer that arrested him and never changed his mind about what happened. However, a new set of serial murders that have too many similarities to Sean's case have alarms going off in everyone's head even Cole's. Cole is still not sure he believes Sean is innocent but once he starts to question himself he cannot walk away from Megan or the case. He lets his feelings for Megan compromise his duty as a by the book police officer and they both find themselves searching for answers without any support except each other.

Megan is able to stumble upon some overlooked pieces of evidence and soon discovers that the serial killer not only knows Megan he sees her as his salvation. Megan chases through doors that lead nowhere and avenues that keep closing off but with Cole running alongside her things move faster but are they moving in the right direction or could they still be chasing ghosts?

With time running out, the serial killer getting close and Megan unable to hold back her true feelings from Cole any longer what started as a small fire too soon becomes an eternal flame. Megan has to trust Cole but can she let herself completely forget the past and run into the arms of her future?

What an amazing plot Ms.

Megan is in her late 20's, a writer and court advocate. Her brother Sean is awaiting death by lethal injection for a grisly murder that occurred about 3 years ago. The hero is Cole, a 37 year old homicide detective. Three years ago, Megan and Cole were having a nice dinner, and things were headed to the bedroom when Cole's cell phone rang. He got an address to report to, where a murder had just taken place. Turns out it was Megan brother, Sean an ex Special Ops veteran. The story picks up two years after Sean's arrest and trial, with Megan's visit to Sean in prison. Yep, I shed a tear or two over their emotional parting when Megan left that day. All either of them have left is each other. The world is convinced Sean is a cold blooded murder, and that Megan has a few loose screws for trying to prove his innocence.

Cole shows up once again to investigate another murder, the one in the trailer park. Devany, who Megan is an advocate for, has just witnessed a murder in a vacant trailer. Cole and Megan meet up again, and after the years apart, to his chagrin, he's still got it bad for her. As Cole tries to convince Megan to give up her fight for Sean, the killer is busy getting his mind wrapped around Megan, who has been his target all along. But the killer can't stop his grisly killings, even now when Sean's execution is only days away. It occurs to Cole that the murders are escalating, and maybe Megan has been right all along; Sean may not be guilty after all.

Finally, three fourths of the way through the book, Cole and Megan get together. After all of the previous interruptions I was honestly beginning to wonder if the magic moment would become reality or not. After all, with these murders going on, it was beyond time to throw in a few happy moments.
