Sam King, a down-on-his-luck garbage collector, just upgraded from living under a bridge to a ramshackled one-room apartment. As he is about to end his miserable existence, he encounters a mysterious beggar who claims to have been Gabriel Taylor, the CEO of the world's largest chemical company. The Beggar reveals to Sam that life has a formula, and nothing is a coincidence, or chance. The mysterious Beggar shows Sam, that each and every one of us, has a predetermined purpose to accomplish in this life. After spending hours talking to Sam about how to let life unfold and free his mind from worry about the future and regret and anger about the past, the beggar mysteriously disappears. This sends Sam on a search for the truth about Gabe, himself, life, and love.

What a touching and inspirational read! I’m so glad I took a chance on the book. And I would LOVE to see it on the big screen. I gave it four stars because I thought it was often too repetitive (especially in the beginning), but nonetheless the story’s magic was left untarnished. I can imagine a movie producer coming in and tightening things up, and then splashing this heartbreaking AND amazing life of Sam King across that giant screen, bringing out the scenes in vibrant fanciful touches that glow with magic from east to west and north to south. With just the right soul stirring music in the background. Boy!! Would I love to experience that!! Highly recommended.

I loved this book! It encourages you to look for the signs that are given to us to lead us to our life destination. Don't try to force things to happen. It will come to you when the time is right.. Accept the signs that are put into your path. They will lead you to where you need to be. Each event is a stepping stone to your life path and will put you where you need to be at the time you need to be there!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand their life path and how to get there! Sit in the canoe and just BE!

I loved this book! I was up late one night thinking about fear. I got on YouTube and found a vid by Jack Canfield about fear and signs from the universe. Someone left a comment about this book, and it's the second time I've seen this book recommended online. This story of Sam King's life covers so much: fear, anxiety, loneliness, poverty, homelessness, anger, love, harsh childhoods, dreams, etc. I enjoyed it, and enjoyed Soul LaVee's storytelling.

Wow! Wow! I cried I laughed I went into ocean deep thoughts. It’s like I was reading a book about me. I am Sam this book was put in my path for a reason a huge reason. I’m honestly so blown away I can see and understand so much now. The continuous battle between my soul and ego. My prayers have been answered reading this book has been a true blessing for me. So many things I have to start changing. Total synchronicity the way this book was lead to me. Thank you for that angel who left a comment on a YouTube video regarding this book. Isn't it time we found a solution to life's success?

A gripping tale that can change your life ! It's delightful, informative and a profound read, that is "unputdownable."
As we read this partly self-help, partly teaching episode, we feel close to the characters and feel the ideas and the enlightening message.
Young Sam, 21, is desolate, defeated and hopeless, filled with constant dread, and it was time for it to end. He's standing by the Detroit River, when a voice says..."you're exactly where you're supposed to be..."
A beggar man is sitting on cardboard, and had quite a lot to say. Sam is shocked. The old man tells him that he's guided by his soul and his ego, explaining the difference. Analogies were made, a canoe floating on a river, driving a car, and more.
What is the difference between alone and lonely? We How do we live in the moment? Do we need to control everything like we are programmed to, or can we just "be." Sam's beliefs are rocked.
Later, Sam goes to his coworker, Joshua, about 40 and his wife for guidance and asks questions, and Joshua explains he's had that happen to him, and changed everything.
So, Sam sets out to go with it and see what happens. He gets a bump in the road and immediately his brain and ego kick in to the old way of thinking. He must let it go and just "be" to get his true path.
This is a beautiful, profound lesson on fate, circumstances, where we find that our lives are set and we need not go against it. This is fascinating, a learning experience that sneaks up on you, while you read Sam's life story.
Will Sam's life fall into place?
Is it true, all of the things Gabe the beggar told him?
We are enlightened and renewed. Ready to try something new for our own lives.
Highly recommended.

This book was an absolutely refreshing read with a few laughs in between here and there. In today's world, we tend to worry a lot about the future that we forget to enjoy the present - to live in the moment and it has a lot to do with the capitalist society that we live in. But this book assures us that the Universe has our backs. As one of the major sacred texts put it, we'll never see the righteous forsaken or his seed begging for bread. Just live simply (don't be a simpleton though) and help others as we all need help some time or another. No man is an island, except for maybe Cayman.
