About the Author
Jessica Harris is an international speaker, writer, and blogger. Recognized as one of the leading voices speaking out about female sex addiction in the church, she shares her story in hopes of breaking down the stigma around women and sex. She has authored two books- "Love Done Right: Devos" and "Beggar's Daughter." She has been featured on ABC Nightline as well as in the documentary film, "The Heart of the Matter."
"Jessica Harris has a passion and calling for talking about some of the hard issues women of faith face such as purity, living single and women addicted to porn.
Jessica’s passion and experience are evident when she speaks to audiences of all ages and genders. Pulling from her own personal struggle with these same issues she is both captivating and inspiring. Whether you’re planning a youth event, ladies retreat, recovery meeting, or a leadership conference, her message of hope and the redeeming power of God’s love is one we all need to hear!" - Josh McDowell

At the outset, I should say that I’m a male in my 30’s; I haven’t heard the author speak at a conference before nor do I follow her blog; I know I’m not the intended audience of this book. But even so, once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I finished it in a weekend – a particularly busy weekend, I remember, when I had other things needing to get accomplished besides reading. Those other things never got done.
This is a fast and engaging read, challenging and powerful. Harris writes with clarity and with brutal honesty and vulnerability about the details of her life – the abuse, the addiction to pornography, the feelings of being trapped and alienated – in a transparent and thoughtful way that is rare. But this book doesn’t stop there. It is also a personal story about finding hope and redemption in terrible circumstances and breaking the back of addiction, all in a very genuine way that is neither abstract nor condemning. Without being gratuitous, Harris holds nothing back, and her testimony of life-altering grace is all the more powerful because of it. This is one seriously profound and transforming book. It brought me to tears – several times.
I would highly recommend Beggar’s Daughter – not just for its intended audience, but for anyone. This book, like its author, is something truly special and needed.
