is that the diagrams, especially the Ven diagrams, which are basically the summation of the info presented, are so small as to be practically useless. I read the book on my Kindle and loved the info, in fact, after reading over a dozen gardening how-to books the past few days I'm rating this right up in the top three. The info deserves 5 stars. But even after switching over to the computer to try to see them on the much larger area of the monitor, when they're enlarged they go blurry. I'll figure it out, but if this could be fixed it would greatly improve the useability of the book.

I do not often give five star reviews, in fact I mostly review books that annoy me. (Check my reviews if you have any doubts.) This is one of the few exceptions. It is excellent with regard to content, accuracy of information, and flow and structure of the book itself. I have been an enthusiastic Permaculture gardener for two decades and often look at new gardening books. I am fairly experienced but I have already found several new tips - things that I was unaware of until now. This is without doubt the best that I have so far found on Amazon. I have already recommended it to several people who have an interest in developing a high producing garden in a relatively small space - such as survivalists or "preppers" as they are known in the US.

This is an excellent book and I can enthusiastically recommend it.

Tons of information for the beginner gardener. Learn what herbs help keep the bad bugs away, and brings in the good ones. Learn what veggies compliment each other, and the ones that are bad to be near each other. Great, great starter primer.

This is a good book. It is easy to read and has some good information. One thing is how to attract good insects, and this works. I live in high desert on land that had never been planted. Without any blooms other than cactus early in the year I had no native bees. Slowly they have come here to live. Amazingly, I can work in the garden and even touch or brush up against them without being stung. So, any information is great to me. This book presents good theories and info and beginning gardeners should give it a read.

Some of the writing seemed a bit simplistic and the book was often repetitive. I really liked the tables of compatable and non-compatable plantings. I found out why everything I planted beside the chicken coop died: the coop on that side is shaded by a black walnut tree.

This book has good advice for the novice organic gardener. I would have enjoyed a bit more detail. Organic interaction between plant families was intriguing. The information on beneficial insects was good as far as it went. If you are starting out this spring and trying to go organic this book covers the planning basics to do it right.

Very little if any research based ilnformation. Very disappointing. Enough errors that I am referring it to Oregon State University for evaluation. Appears to have done a lot of "gleaning" from older references.

As with many books of this genre, early on the author defined organic gardening as "growing without the use of chemicals of any kind". Since chemicals are found in absolutely everything, including organic fertilizers and pesticides, this definition is quite simply nonsense. The failure to distinguish accurately between chemicals of an inorganic or synthetic nature and biologicals was carried throughout the book, much to my annoyance. I find it very off putting when a book is meant to be non-fiction as it calls the author's reliability on other information into question.

There's a comprehensive listing of beneficial plants, although it does contain a few errors, and some very useful Ven diagrams. Since the book is intended to be a beginner's guide, I thought it could have been more informative with the inclusion of more photos, for example, to accompany the types of companion planting, the information on insects and the ingredients of the ideal soil mixture.
