It was an unusual intro to the book for me as I haven’t read much in this style but once I got into it,I realised that I was truly enjoying it and as you do when you are really enjoying a book, I felt disappointed that the ride was over and I wanted more. Hint,hint.

Fun book with a few weaknesses

This book as a joy to read and left me wanting more when I finished. The pacing was great and I never felt like there were any slow spots, the only major weakness in the plot was the villain's motivation. At first the bad guy seemed like a sophisticated businessman who was using some mafia-style tactics to enforce his monopoly... but then he turned into a mustache-twirling villain who casually violates the most significant magical contract in the world instead of using his centuries of experience to come up with a solution to his problem.

I also would have loved to see more of the history/worldbuilding angle; it seems suspicious that a world with overt magic and professional mages would have followed mostly the same patterns as real-world history.

Pleasantly surprising read

The storyline given in the description seemed pretty interesting at first so i decided to give the book a chance and i am very glad i did. It was a fairly quick read so the world building wasn't super fleshed out but it was descriptive enough that you felt like it existed passed the main characters and the characters themselves were interesting. What i liked the most was how unique the magic system was and the conflicts it created keeping the characters from becoming obscenely overpowered with one spell. The characters were veey relatable and there wasnt a moment i felt bored reading this, i almost couldn't put it down once i started and while it didnt end on a cliffhanger per se it did leave me wanting to know whats next for Kyle and Jessie. All in all it was a very enjoyable read.

I loved the concept of this book. I read it when he was releasing it one chapter at a time as he wrote it, and I was always eager for the next chapter. I liked the hero with his naive venture into magical invention and marketing and all the problems he caused for himself.
